Of the 1,057 completions Google's US autocomplete offered on October 24, 2026, around seven ways of typing this search, 108 were about repair and 83 asked for a battery, charger or part. So this page answers three questions in order: where the verified stores are, which kind will fix your bike, and where the parts come from.

Find a Verified eBike Store in Your State

You want to ride the bike before you pay, or you need a mechanic who will open your motor, and the nearest sign that says e-bikes may not be either. A big-box aisle can be empty of e-bikes, and some shops will not work on e-bikes at all. Start with the state table: every count is a store confirmed on a dated page, and each row links the page that lists its stores.

A full Redtail directory covers 32 states and a Washington guide covers the District of Columbia: 3,189 storefronts in 1,821 communities (state summary, CSV). The most verified storefronts in this directory are in California (353), Colorado (183), Pennsylvania (175), Michigan (153) and New York (147).

How each store was verified

Nearly half the 3,189 were confirmed on the store's own website, the strongest of the seven sources; the table below lists them strongest first.

A maker's dealer map tells you a store carries that maker's bikes or service, and a store's own website tells you what it says about itself. Neither tells you what is on the floor this afternoon, so call before you drive.

Every City Guide, Store by Store

Our city guides cover 152 cities, one page each. Each counts only the storefronts inside the city limits, and a city showing none inside its limits still has a page that names the nearest stores outside it.

California has 76 city guides, Florida 27, Texas 26, New York 6 and Tennessee 2, and Arizona, Colorado, District of Columbia, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania and Washington have one each. Twenty-two of the 152 guides find no verified store inside their city, and each of those pages exists to point you at the closest real one. The state summary names every guide by state.

New in the directory since October 1, 2026

Twenty-five state directories have gone live since October 1, 2026, and so have city guides for Baltimore, Boston, Charlotte, Chicago, Columbus, Detroit, Indianapolis, Louisville, Memphis, Nashville, Oklahoma City, Philadelphia, Phoenix, Seattle and Washington, along with five in New York and 33 in California. Each state's figure below is its count today, after any city page published since was folded in.

The Five Kinds of eBike Store Near You

A "near me" search returns five kinds of place plus two things that only look like stores. Walk into the wrong kind and you get a test ride with no bench behind it, or a bench that will not touch your motor. Knowing which is which saves that drive.

A single-brand locator only shows you that brand's dealers. A big-box chain sells e-bikes as one category among many. Whether a shop will work on a bike it did not sell depends on the shop more than its kind, and it is what one search in ten around this phrase is asking for, as the repair section below shows.

Single-brand stores and dealer networks

Velotric says it is "in 1,600+ Retail Stores" on its dealer page, and Aventon advertises "2,000+ bike shops" in its authorized network, searchable "by city, zip code, or county" on its dealer locator, both read October 24, 2026.

Pedego lists "100+ Pedego Store locations or 70+ certified service centers across the United States" on its dealer-finder page. Rad Power lists seven RadRetail stores (Berkeley, Denver, Huntington Beach, Salt Lake City, San Diego, Santa Barbara and Seattle) on its RadRetail page, both read the same day; Rad's brand and assets were acquired by Life EV in March 2026, per Rad's own announcement, so treat its store count as a moving figure.

Lectric's partner locator on its test-ride page carried 209 locations for test rides, rentals and sales on October 24, 2026, and the same page says its bikes can now be bought in store at Best Buy. Find a brand's own dealers

If you already know the brand, its own finder is the fastest route to a dealer, and 62 of the store-finding completions named one. Each row links the finder the brand runs.

The catch is in the name: a brand locator answers "where can I buy this brand", and only the state directories above answer "which stores near me sell e-bikes at all".

Full-line bike shops

Trek, Specialized and Giant (with its Liv label) each sell e-bikes through a US dealer network and run their own store finder, linked in the table above and confirmed live October 24, 2026.

Ask about the fitting and service department before you ask about price, because over three years of ownership the bench does more for you than the sticker. Use the live finder for the nearest one, because a dealer list changes faster than any figure quoted about it.

Big-box and warehouse retailers

National chains stock e-bikes as one category among many, and their own SEC filings and corporate pages are the place to size them.

Best Buy reported 886 Best Buy-branded US stores at August 1, 2026, 926 counting its Outlet Centers, Pacific Sales and Yardbird formats, in its Form 10-Q for that quarter (Store Summary table). Costco operated 647 warehouses in the United States and Puerto Rico, of 939 worldwide, at August 30, 2026, per its fiscal 2026 Form 10-K (Item 2, Properties).

DICK'S Sporting Goods had 723 DICK'S-branded stores at August 1, 2026, including 52 Field House and 41 House of Sport locations, per its Form 10-Q store-count table. Walmart publishes 4,615 US Walmart stores as of July 31, 2026, on its corporate location-facts page.

Those counts are stores, not e-bike floors: e-bikes are one category among many in each, so check the exact model is in stock at your store before you drive.

REI Co-op is the exception worth a drive: every REI has a full-service bike shop that, in its own words, can "service your mountain, road, hybrid or e-bike" (REI's own page, read October 24, 2026). Direct-to-consumer brands

Direct-to-consumer brands skip the store and ship to your door. Ride1Up and Lectric sell mainly online; Ride1Up backs it with a San Diego shop and support team, and our Ride1Up profile reads its terms clause by clause. We sell the same way, with one difference: 219 e-bikes and trikes from 16 brands on one shelf, 164 of them in stock on October 27, 2026, and an inbox, sales@redtailebikes.com, that typically answers within one business day.

The trade is the test ride for a wider choice and a doorstep delivery. The good sellers back that with support that answers and a warranty claim someone walks through for you; the weak ones back it with a chat box that goes quiet after checkout. Settle the support question before you pay.

Independent local bike shops

The independent bicycle dealer is the classic buy-local, get-service shop: multi-brand and hands-on, and several in our Florida directory and our Portland guide publish that their bench takes any brand. The NBDA dealer finder searches them by name, location and category, and our state directories list them town by town beside the chains. Visit one when you want a test ride, a professional build and a mechanic you can go back to.

Two more surfaces will meet you on the way, and neither is a store. Marketplaces and classifieds carry anything anyone lists, including bikes whose wattage or class is stated wrongly or not at all, with no bench behind the sale. Doorway pages are worse: a "[city]" landing page that ranks on a local query while the company has no floor within a hundred miles of you.

The tell is that a doorway page never names a street address, only the city in its title. If a result cannot tell you which door to walk through, it is not a store, and one call during its published hours settles it.

How to Judge Any eBike Shop in Ten Minutes

A good e-bike shop lets you ride before you buy, services what it sells, and names the trade-offs instead of the hype. Store type matters less than these signals: a strong independent and a strong brand store share them, and a weak one of either fails them.

Green flags, a shop worth your money:

• Free test rides. You ride the actual model, or a close sibling, before paying.
• An in-house service department. Mechanics and a repair bench behind the sales floor.
• A battery certified to a named standard. Ask which one, and expect a number instead of a reassurance.
• More than one brand or model. Choice means they are matching you to a bike rather than clearing inventory.
• A written return and warranty policy. The window, any restocking fee and who holds the warranty, all on paper.
• Questions before pitches. Good staff ask how far and where you ride before naming a bike.

Red flags, keep looking:

• No test rides allowed. A spec sheet cannot tell you a torque sensor from a cadence sensor.
• A single-brand landing page dressed as "#1 shop in [city]". A marketing surface wearing a storefront.
• No service department. A flat is any mechanic's job; a controller or battery fault is not, and a floor with no bench has no answer for it.
• Vague warranty paperwork. "It's covered" without terms is not coverage.
• No physical address or working phone. On a local listing, that is a dead or fake entry.
• Today-only urgency. A confident shop lets a $2,000 decision breathe.

Before you drive: five questions for the phone

One question comes before every drive: is the model you want in stock in your size? A dealer list cannot tell you; a two-minute call can.

1. Is the model I want in stock in my frame size, and will you hold it until I arrive?
2. Can I test ride it, and do I need an appointment?
3. Do you service e-bikes you did not sell, motor and battery included?
4. Which safety standard is the battery certified to?
5. Who holds the warranty, and is the return window in writing?

The battery question, with the number to ask for. In June 2026 the Consumer Product Safety Commission proposed a mandatory safety standard for lithium-ion batteries in micromobility products, naming the voluntary standards it would make binding: ANSI/CAN/UL 2849:2020 for e-bike electrical systems and ANSI/CAN/UL/ULC 2271:2023 for battery packs (91 FR 38162).

The rule is still a proposal: the Commission scheduled oral comments on it for October 21, 2026 (91 FR 63208), and the Federal Register's index showed no final rule on October 24, 2026. In the proposal the Commission counts "227 unique incidents" from 2019 through 2023 that the rule "potentially could have" prevented, "90 incidents" of them "associated with 39 fatalities and 181 injuries".

Ask which of those two standards the bike is certified to. A shop that can answer has read the paperwork; one that reaches for "it's UL" has not.

In New York City the question is already law: a store may not sell or rent out a powered bicycle whose electrical system is not certified to UL 2849, and after a first violation each later one within two years carries a civil penalty of up to $2,000, every stock-keeping unit counted separately (NYC Admin. Code § 20-610).

Judge the shop, never the sign out front.

eBike Repair: Who Will Work on Your Bike

108 of 1,057 store-finding completions, 10.2%, are about repair. "Bike shops near me that fix e bikes", "e bike mechanic shop near me", "electric bike repair shop near me home service". A store page that only answers "where do I buy" leaves 10.2% of those completions unanswered.

Repair is the commonest thing people add to the search, ahead of batteries and parts, so this page covers who will fix a bike and who sells one.

Why repair is the harder problem. An e-bike is a bicycle plus a battery, a motor, a controller and a wiring loom, and a shop that did not sell it may have no diagnostic tool for your system, no parts account with your brand and no warranty relationship to bill against. The result can be a shop that fixes the bicycle half and cannot touch the electric half.

What our city pages show. Whether a bench takes an outside bike depends on the shop more than its kind. Trek's stores in Houston, San Antonio, Fort Worth, Arlington, El Paso and Midland publish that they service any brand, as do a Velotric showcase dealer on our Palm Coast page and Motion Madness in Clovis, on our Fresno page.

A few shops in Illinois, Ohio and Pennsylvania say they do not work on e-bikes at all. Call with the brand and the motor before you carry the bike in.

What the law says, because many buyers have it backwards. Under the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act, "no warrantor of a consumer product may condition his written or implied warranty of such product on the consumer's using, in connection with such product, any article or service (other than article or service provided without charge under the terms of the warranty) which is identified by brand, trade, or corporate name …" (15 U.S.C. § 2302(c)).

The same subsection lets the Commission waive that rule for a product on application. The Federal Trade Commission puts it in plainer words: tie-in sales provisions "state or imply that a consumer must buy or use an item or service from a particular company to keep their warranty coverage", and they are generally not allowed (FTC, Businessperson's Guide to Federal Warranty Law).

That cuts both ways. Having an independent shop service your e-bike does not by itself void the manufacturer's warranty; what a warrantor may still do, the FTC's warranty guide says, is decline to cover damage the outside work caused. Keep the receipt, and use a mechanic who documents what they touched.

What to ask before you need the answer. Ask while you are still choosing where to buy.

• Do you service e-bikes you did not sell, and does that include motor and battery work or only the bicycle parts?
• Which motor systems do you have diagnostic access to: Bosch, Shimano, Bafang, or the brand's own?
• Do you have a parts account with my brand, and what is your typical wait on a controller or a display?
• Will you work on a bike bought direct from a manufacturer?
• What is your queue in the busy months?

Where a direct seller stands. Buying direct means no shop down the road when a controller fails in March. What a direct seller owes you instead is a warranty claim someone walks through for you, parts that ship without a dealer account in the way, and support that answers.

Batteries, Chargers and Parts

83 of the 1,057 store-finding completions, 7.9%, ask for a battery, charger, part or conversion kit near you. The safest source for a replacement battery is the bike's maker, through the store that sold the bike or the maker's own support, because the pack has to match the frame, the controller and the charger.

The Consumer Product Safety Commission's own advice is specific. Under "After the Ride" on its micromobility page it says to "only use the charger provided with or recommended by the manufacturer of your micromobility device", and to use only a replacement pack "tested and approved to work safely with your device" that the maker has "confirmed to be suitable".

So a shop that sells you a generic pack off a shelf owes you the answer to the standards question in the checklist above. A pack certified to ANSI/CAN/UL/ULC 2271:2023 is the one the proposed federal rule would require, and a shop that services batteries should be able to say whether it handles lithium-ion packs at all before you carry yours in.

Buying Online vs Buying Local

Local floors win on test rides, assembly and hands-on service. Online wins on selection and a bike that arrives at your door. Sharp buyers use both: learn the fit on a local floor, then order from whoever backs the bike best.

If you order online, check the seller first: our census of the websites that sell e-bikes to Americans lists the company each site names in its terms, what a government registry holds for that name and how old the domain is.

What a local store does better. You ride before you commit, the bike is professionally assembled, and you have a mechanic to return to. The cost is real: a local floor carries a limited set of brands, and its price has the assembly and the bench built in.

What buying online does better. A wider selection than one floor can hold, and delivery to the door. The trade is no test ride and repairs you arrange yourself or through the seller, which is why support that answers and a warranty claim someone walks through matter more online than in a shop you can walk into.

A sensible path: research online, test-ride something similar locally to learn what fits you, then order the exact model you want. Shopping With an AI Assistant

An assistant can do the store search for you, provided you give it data rather than a guess. Many shoppers already work this way: in July 2026 Salesforce reported that half of shoppers bring an AI assistant into some step of their buying journey.

In a survey of 403 US consumers for Clutch, 65% had asked one to research a product before they bought it.

1. Give it the store list. Paste the link to the JSON file or the CSV with your city or ZIP code, and ask for the verified stores near you with the date each was checked. A record that names its page and its date is one an assistant can quote back to you.
2. Ask it to open the store's own page. Every record carries the page that lists it, and 3,000 of the 3,189 carry a web address for the store, so the assistant can confirm hours, brands and service before you call.

Which eBike Guide Answers Your Question

Once you know where to buy, the question becomes what. Every guide below is one of ours, matched to what you are shopping for.

Take the wattage row seriously before you fall for a number on a shop wall. Federal law defines a low-speed electric bicycle with a motor of "less than 750 watts" (15 U.S.C. § 2085(b)), so a 3000W machine is a different legal object with a different place to ride it, and each of those guides opens with the law before it names a bike.

eBike Laws: Check Before You Buy

Before you buy anywhere, know what is legal where you ride. On October 6, 2026, 42 states defined Class 1, 2 and 3 e-bikes, and North Carolina's new law makes it 43 on December 1, 2026, per our 50-state guide; the framework is PeopleForBikes' "three class system and its accompanying model legislation". Classes, helmet ages, path access and trail rules are set state by state, with cities and federal land managers adding their own.

The watt word decides more sales than buyers expect. Federal law says "less than 750 watts" (15 U.S.C. § 2085(b)), while 25 of the 44 jurisdictions with a wattage ceiling let 750 W itself in, with words such as "not more than". A motor rated at 750 W on the nose is therefore an e-bike in some states and outside the definition in others (where a 750-watt motor is an e-bike).

This bites at the moment of purchase, because a bike that is road-legal in one state can be barred from paths one state over, and some states want the bike on record before it rides.

Hawaii now requires every e-bike to be registered, with "a permanent registration fee of $30", and riding an unregistered one on a public road, sidewalk or bike facility risks a citation (HRS § 249-14(b), as amended by Act 259, approved July 15, 2026). An officer there may also impound the bike temporarily under the same subsection.

The Consumer Product Safety Commission's advance notice of proposed rulemaking on electric bicycles (89 FR 18861, March 2024) was still the latest step in that proceeding in the Federal Register's index on October 24, 2026.

Confirm your state's limits first: the state table and the list under it link every state's own law page, and the 50-state guide compares them side by side. A good shop knows the local rules; a better one asks where you will ride before it sells.

No eBike Store Near Me? What to Do Instead

Twenty-two of our 152 city guides found no verified e-bike store inside the city limits, and where you live the nearest one may be a drive you would rather not make. Buying direct gets you the exact model instead of whatever the nearest aisle stocks, so the question is whether the seller behind it answers. Our own policies, read October 24, 2026, set out what you get:

• Who you are buying from. A U.S. company; the company that answers for your order is named in our terms of service.

How do I find an e-bike store that is open right now?

Hours on a directory listing go stale faster than anything else on it, which is why our city pages print each shop's own published hours where it publishes them. Call before you drive. If the phone is not answered during the hours a listing claims, treat the listing as unverified and try the next store that does answer.

Where can I buy a used electric bike near me?

Some local shops take trade-ins, and a shop can tell you a used bike's history and check its battery before you pay; a private listing tells you only what the seller says. Price the battery first, because a pack's age and charge cycles do not show from the outside: ask for its certification and purchase date, and price a replacement pack for that exact model before you agree a figure.

Why do local e-bike shops cost more than buying online?

A local price can include assembly, a test ride and a service bench you can return to, which an online order does not. Compare the same model both ways, and where the local price is higher, ask what it covers. Do e-bike laws affect which e-bike I can buy?

They can. Rules are set state by state, so a bike that is road-legal where you live may be barred from paths one state over. A motor rated at exactly 750 W fits the wording of 25 of the 44 jurisdictions that cap wattage and falls outside it in the other 19. Check your state's law page in the state-by-state list before you spend.

The Bottom Line

There is no single best "e-bike store near me", and the search will not find you one. What it returns is five different kinds of business, and the right answer is whichever kind matches how you want to buy and who you want fixing the bike afterwards.

For test rides and long-term service, a full-line shop or an independent dealer from your state's directory is the place to start. For one brand, use that brand's locator. For choice and doorstep delivery, a direct seller ships to you.

Whatever the channel, judge the floor on four signals: a free test ride, an in-house bench, a battery certified to a number you can say out loud, and a warranty in writing. Settle the repair question in the same visit, since it decides year two.

And if nothing good is near you, that is not a problem to solve with a long drive. Sources, limitations and how this page was verified

Limitations

1. Author interest disclosed. Redtail eBikes is a direct-to-consumer e-bike retailer. This page names us as one of five channels and says where the other four beat us; no shop, brand or directory paid for a mention, and none was asked to.
2. "Verified" means published evidence, read and dated. Each of the 3,189 storefronts was confirmed against what the store, its chain, its maker or a rebate program publishes, except 19 in Florida and Texas confirmed on a search-engine business listing alone, on a stated date between August 25, 2026, and November 3, 2026. Stores close and move after the date, and this page makes no claim about service quality anywhere.
3. The map is where the work has reached. 32 state directories and 152 city guides are a floor; a state or city that is not listed has not been swept yet, which says nothing about its shops.
4. The total is re-derived, never incremented. 3,189 is the sum of each state directory's own re-derived count plus the Washington, DC guide; a state's count already contains its city pages, so no store is counted twice, and the store list is checked to add up to it state by state.
5. Store records keep our pages' wording. Names, streets, phones and websites are copied from the page each record names; a blank field means our page prints none, and the addresses are not geocoded.
6. Network sizes are each company's own figures, and they move. Chain counts come from the latest Form 10-K or 10-Q on the date given, Walmart's from its own location-facts page, and brand counts from each brand's page on October 24, 2026; Rad Power's brand and assets changed hands in March 2026.
7. We give no REI store count. REI's bike-shop page, read on October 24, 2026, says every REI has a full-service bike shop and prints no number of stores.
8. The demand figures count search strings, never searches or people. 1,202 unique completions from Google's US autocomplete across eight roots on October 24, 2026; the repair share leaves out the root "ebike repair near me", whose completions are repair by construction, and the AI-search prompts were read through one answer engine.
9. The five-channel framework is editorial. The taxonomy of store types is an organizing choice rather than a standard anyone publishes, and the table's general descriptions of what each kind offers are our summary; the store counts, network sizes and service policies inside each channel are sourced individually.
10. Every earlier total on this page was replaced when a directory went live or re-counted its stores. The dated record of each count is kept with the store list, and the store list is the record.

EXPIRY: a new state directory or city guide going live; any brand locator moving or closing; a change of ownership at Pedego, Rad Power or Aventon; a new chain 10-K or 10-Q; a final CPSC rule on micromobility batteries; North Carolina's three-class law starting on December 1, 2026; six-month re-verification of the oldest records (next February 2027).
