Santa Clarita Transit — eBikes on the Bus Bike Rack
Santa Clarita Transit's own Bikes on Buses page, read September 10, 2026, states the rack rule in one sentence: "Only single seat, two-wheeled bicycles will be permitted. Wheels must be at a minimum of 16 inches. No motor-powered, BMX-style or 3-wheeled vehicles."

What the City itself has told buyers directly
Santa Clarita's own government has weighed in publicly, in a December 2025 press release from Mayor Pro Tem Patsy Ayala aimed at parents buying a first e-bike as a gift. It confirms the state framework in the City's own words — "E-bikes are allowed on Santa Clarita's trails, roads and bike lanes, provided they meet California's e-bike classification system" — and adds a warning this page could not have written from the code alone.
"Some bikes sold online or in stores this time of year do not follow these classifications. They may look like e-bikes but lack pedals and feature oversized motors that push them far past the legal speed limits. These high-powered rides are actually electric motorcycles, and they're not allowed within City limits, including streets, sidewalks and trails unless the rider is fully licensed and the vehicle is registered with the Department of Motor Vehicles." A non-compliant machine also needs a Class M motorcycle license, a DOT-approved motorcycle helmet, insurance, and working headlights, taillights, turn signals, mirrors and a horn.
The enforcement is real and current rather than hypothetical. The same release states: "the City, along with the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's Station, has stepped up enforcement. Deputies are writing citations, impounding vehicles that don't meet standards and, in some cases, delaying driver's license eligibility for teens caught riding e-motorcycles without proper credentials."
One figure in that release does not match the statute it is summarizing, and this page flags it rather than repeat it silently: the release states a helmet is required for "Class 1 and 2 riders under 17 years-old," where CVC § 21212 itself sets the threshold at under 18.
The 28 mph Class 3 speed and the "helmet regardless of class" line both check out against the statute. The single-year gap in the general helmet age is the City's own release, not this page's arithmetic, and the statute controls.

Of those 12: three cleared as retail floors with electric bikes confirmed in their own words or a manufacturer's own dealer roster. Two corrections happened along the way. A CARB-roster candidate, "Open Trails Ebikes," had been marked unverifiable because its own domain no longer resolves to the business (it now redirects to an unrelated company, a different one on each check, the signature of an expired and resold domain).
