How we verified this directory — Milad Ghobadibeygvand, BScN
Candidates came from OpenStreetMap, eight makers' dealer maps, a Google Maps search of all 114 counties, the City of St. Louis, the ZIP areas of St. Louis and Kansas City and every Missouri community of 5,000 or more, and the shops AI search engines named. Each one was read on its own website and on its Google Maps listing.
A store is listed when its own site offers e-bikes for sale or a maker's dealer map carries its address, and Google Maps shows it open. Rental counters, repair-only shops, mobile mechanics, vehicle and powersports dealers, and closed stores are left off.

Quick Answer
There are 66 verified e-bike shops in Missouri as of October 16, 2026, in 39 communities across 23 of its 115 local jurisdictions, the 114 counties and the City of St. Louis. St. Louis County holds the most, 16, and nine of Missouri's 13 cities of 50,000 or more have a store inside their city limits.
An e-bike rider in Missouri has a bicycle rider's rights and duties (§ 307.194.1) when the motor is rated at less than 750 watts (§ 301.010(15)), and we found no state rebate for buying one (rebates).
No counter close to home? Every e-bike we sell ships free within the contiguous United States (shipping policy), and our Missouri e-bike law guide covers where each class may ride.
Missouri's e-bike counters gather where most Missourians live. The St. Louis and Kansas City regions hold 42 of the 66 stores listed here and 52.5% of the state's residents (Census Bureau 2024 estimates); the other 24 are spread across the remaining seven regions.
A "St. Louis" address on a listing does not put a store in the City of St. Louis. The Census Bureau counts the city as a county of its own, apart from St. Louis County (SUB-EST2024).
Of the 8 listed stores that print St. Louis as their town, four stand inside the city limits and four in St. Louis County, all four inside another city, Brentwood and Des Peres among them. Each store was placed by its own point with the Census geocoder.
Across the state, thirteen of the 65 listed stores that print a mailing town stand outside the place that town names (Census geocoder), so read the county column before the address line when you plan a drive.
Every listing below gives you a street address, a phone number wherever a source confirms one, and a grade that tells you what proved the store sells e-bikes. The listings are grouped by the nine regions the Missouri Economic Research and Information Center (MERIC) profiles, which between them take in every county and the City of St. Louis (MERIC regional profiles), and within each region by the mailing town a store prints.
The cover shows the Gateway Arch from the North Gateway of its grounds in St. Louis, the stainless-steel arch the National Park Service says "towers 630 feet above the banks of the Mississippi River" (NPS, read October 16, 2026).
Missouri's eBike Map, County by County
The table lists the twenty-two county-level jurisdictions with 50,000 or more residents, the City of St. Louis among them, home to 73.4% of Missourians (Census Bureau 2024 estimates). "Verified stores" counts the stores whose own point stands inside each one, and "Open leads" counts the bike businesses there still unconfirmed. The 7 stores in Missouri's smaller counties are in the region listings below, where you can look up your own county.

Inside the limits of Missouri's 13 cities of 50,000 or more, nine have at least one verified store: Springfield 6, St. Louis 4, Columbia 4, Kansas City 3, St. Peters 3, Lee's Summit 2, St. Charles 1, St. Joseph 1 and Blue Springs 1 (Census Bureau 2024 estimates). Four have none (Independence, O'Fallon, Joplin and Florissant); if you live in one of them, the nearest-store table gives you its closest counter.
St. Louis Region carries the largest share of the listings, 29 of 66, and 32.6% of Missouri's residents (Census Bureau 2024 estimates). Measured against population it also comes out on top at 1.4 stores per 100,000 residents, against 1.1 statewide, and West Central Region trails at 0.0, with no store at all.
If you live there, the closest listed counters are a drive away: from Warrensburg, Bike Stop in Blue Springs is 34.2 miles away, and from Sedalia, Pedego Electric Bikes in Columbia is 51.4 miles away, each in a straight line from the Census Bureau's point for the town.

Bottom line St. Louis Region has the most counters, but the county you live in is the one that counts: six of the twenty-two jurisdictions in the table show a dash, and the region listings below give every store by street. If none suits, every e-bike we sell ships free.
Choose the class first, then the counter. In Missouri the class decides whether the state park rule covers your bike, whether Kansas City's code counts it as a bicycle and whether a rider under 16 may take it out. The buying guide lays Class 1, 2 and 3 side by side so you arrive knowing which one your rides call for.
Read the buying guideMissouri eBike Law — 2026 Quick Reference
You can ride an e-bike in Missouri with no driver's license, title, registration or insurance. § 307.194 puts an electric bicycle and its rider outside "provisions of law that are applicable to motor vehicles," and it names "vehicle registration, certificates of title, drivers' licenses, and financial responsibility" in that list. We read every section cited here on the Revisor of Statutes' site on October 16, 2026.
Our Missouri e-bike law guide carries the full reasoning and its count of the Missouri cities whose codes take on the state's sidewalk rule; the rules below are the ones that change which bike you should buy.
- What counts as an e-bike. A bicycle with "fully operable pedals, a saddle or seat for the rider, and an electric motor of less than 750 watts" that fits one of three classes (§ 301.010(15)). The statute says "less than," so a motor rated at exactly 750 watts does not sit under that line on the plain words. If you want a bike that is inside the definition on any reading, buy one rated below 750 watts.
- The label on the frame. Makers and distributors must fix "a permanent label" carrying "the classification number, top assisted speed, and motor wattage," printed in "Arial font and in at least nine-point type" (§ 307.194.3). Find it before you pay. Changing the motor's speed or engagement without replacing that label is barred (§ 307.194.4).
- Age and the speedometer. "No person under sixteen years of age shall operate a class 3 electric bicycle," though a younger rider may sit as a passenger on one built to carry one, and every Class 3 must show its speed in miles per hour (§ 307.194.8). The section sets no age for Class 1 or Class 2.
- Helmets. The state's bicycle and e-bike sections set no helmet rule. Missouri's Chapter 307 lists nine sections in that run, §§ 307.180 to 307.194, and none of them mentions a helmet.
- Lights after dark. From half an hour after sunset to half an hour before sunrise, a bicycle on a street needs a white front light visible at 500 feet, a red rear reflector or lamp visible at 600 feet, and reflective material or lights on the pedals, cranks, shoes or lower legs and on each side (§ 307.185). An e-bike rider carries "all of the duties applicable to the operator of a bicycle" (§ 307.194.1).
- Roads, bike lanes and paths. "An electric bicycle may be ridden where bicycles are permitted to travel," bicycle and multi-use paths included (§ 307.194.7). Whoever runs a path may close it to Class 1 and Class 2 only "following notice and a public hearing," and only for safety or legal compliance. It may close the path to a Class 3 without either step.
- Dirt trails. That path rule stops at a trail "specifically designated as nonmotorized" whose tread is native soil with nothing added. Whoever runs such a trail "may regulate the use of an electric bicycle on that trail" (§ 307.194.7(4)), so the sign at the trailhead decides.
Where each class may ride, at a glance; the bullets above and below give each rule in its own words.
| Where | Class 1 | Class 2 | Class 3 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Roads and bike lanes | Yes | Yes | Yes, from age 16 |
| Bicycle and multi-use paths | Yes, unless closed after a public hearing | Yes, unless closed after a public hearing | Yes, unless the path's manager closes it |
| Natural-surface trails signed nonmotorized | The trail's manager decides | The trail's manager decides | The trail's manager decides |
| State park trails, the Katy Trail included | Yes, at 20 mph | Unsettled; pedal and you are inside any reading | Outside the rule's 20 mph definition |
| Conservation areas | Designated multi-use trails and open roads | Designated multi-use trails and open roads | Designated multi-use trails and open roads |
| Clay County park trails | Yes, on the trails the county names | No | Yes, on the trails the county names |
| Sidewalks | Your city's code decides | Your city's code decides | Your city's code decides; Lee's Summit and Perryville bar it |
- State parks. Missouri's park rule permits "pedal-powered and electrically assisted pedal-powered vehicles" on "all trails designated for bicycle use" (10 CSR 90-2.030(26)). It defines that vehicle by a motor "designed to assist or supplement pedaling, which does not exceed a speed of twenty (20) miles per hour" (10 CSR 90-2.010(1)(O)2).
- The Katy Trail. Katy Trail State Park's own page says the same in fewer words: "Electrically assisted pedal-powered bicycles and tricycles (maximum speed of 20 mph) are allowed" (Missouri State Parks, read October 16, 2026).
- What that means for each class. A Class 1 fits the park definition word for word. A Class 3 assists to 28 mph, past the definition's 20. Whether a throttle that moves the bike with no pedaling counts as assisting pedaling is a question the rule does not answer, so on a Class 2, pedal whenever you ride a park trail.
- Conservation areas. On Missouri Department of Conservation land, "Bicycles are permitted only on designated multi-use trails and on roads open to vehicular traffic, unless otherwise posted" (3 CSR 10-11.130(2)), and the Wildlife Code's bicycle "also includes electric bicycles" (3 CSR 10-20.805(7)). On the areas the rule lists, those trails close "during all portions of the firearms deer hunting season and the spring turkey hunting seasons during legal shooting hours for turkey" (3 CSR 10-11.130(5)).
- Two wattage words. The Wildlife Code defines an e-bike by a motor "of not more than seven hundred fifty (750) watts" (3 CSR 10-20.805(25)), while the vehicle code says "less than 750 watts" (§ 301.010(15)). A bike rated under 750 watts is inside both.
Bottom line If the Katy Trail, the state parks or the conservation areas are why you are buying, buy a Class 1 rated under 750 watts. It fits the park rule word for word and sits inside both of Missouri's wattage definitions. A Class 2 or Class 3 is at home on Missouri's roads and bike lanes.
- The motor cut-off clause. § 307.194.6 says the motor must be "disengaged or ceases to function when the rider stops pedaling or when the brakes are applied." The same code defines a Class 2 as a bike whose motor "may be used exclusively to propel the bicycle" (§ 301.010(15)(b)).
- Two readings of it. Read as two triggers that must both cut the motor, a throttle that pulls while you coast misses the first. Read as either trigger being enough, a motor that stops when you brake complies. The code does not say which it means.
- The bike that satisfies both. A Class 1 or Class 3 that cuts out both when you stop pedaling and when you brake is inside both readings. On a Class 2, ask the shop to show you the motor stopping when you squeeze a brake lever.
- Sidewalks. None of the nine state bicycle sections mentions a sidewalk. The state's model traffic ordinance, which a city takes on by adopting it (§ 300.600), bars any bicycle from a sidewalk "within a business district" and, elsewhere, tells riders to "yield the right-of-way to any pedestrian" and "give audible signal before overtaking" (§ 300.347).
- Kansas City. The city counts an "electric-assisted bicycle" as a bicycle and defines it by a motor with "a power output of not more than 1,000 watts" that cannot push it past 20 mph (§ 70-1). On our reading, a Class 3, which assists to 28 mph, falls outside the city's word, so a Kansas City commuter is best served by a 20 mph class.
- Lee's Summit. No bicycle, e-bike or e-trike on a sidewalk or crosswalk in the downtown business district, and "No person shall operate or ride a Class 3 electric bicycle on a sidewalk or trail" except on the part that is a driveway (§ 29-520(A) and (C)).
- Perryville. Class 1 and Class 2 may use sidewalks and shared-use paths wherever bicycles may, while "Class 3 electric bicycles may not be ridden on sidewalks or shared-use paths" (§ 10.36.060(E)).
- Clay County. On county park trails and shared-use paths, Class 1 and Class 3 may ride the Smoke & Davey, Little Platte, Bone Bender, Eagle View, Anita B. Gorman and Cabin Fever trails and designated singletrack, and "No person shall operate any Class 2 type e-bike" on any county park trail or shared-use path (§ 90.14A).
- Springfield and St. Louis County. Springfield bars a bicycle or "micromobility device" from any sidewalk "within a business district" (§ 106-511). St. Louis County's traffic code files pedal-assist, throttle and 28 mph e-bikes under "motorized bicycle" (§ 1202.010), so read any county rule written for motorized bicycles as written for your e-bike too.
What breaking a rule costs
| The rule you break | What the law says it costs |
|---|---|
| Any rule in §§ 307.180 to 307.194, at 17 or older | An infraction with "a fine of not less than five dollars nor more than twenty-five dollars," which "does not constitute a crime" (§ 307.193) |
| Any of those rules under 17, in front of a peace officer | The officer "may impound the bicycle or motorized bicycle involved for a period not to exceed five days," with a receipt to the child or the owner (§ 307.193) |
| A rider under 16 on a Class 3 | A breach of § 307.194.8, so the under-17 impound route above applies |
| Changing the motor's speed or engagement without a new label | A breach of § 307.194.4, under the same infraction and fine for anyone 17 or older |
The impound clause (§ 307.193) names "the bicycle or motorized bicycle," and § 307.194.1 makes an e-bike "a vehicle to the same extent as a bicycle." The code does not say whether that brings an e-bike under the clause, so a parent should plan as if it does.
Rebates and tax credits
We found no Missouri state rebate or tax credit for buying an e-bike in three reads on October 16, 2026. The Revisor's full-text search for "electric bicycle" returns nine sections of the statutes, and none of them pays or credits anything (Revisor search).
None of the 8,425 bill titles filed in the 2024, 2025 and 2026 regular sessions names a bicycle (House lists for 2024, 2025 and 2026; Senate lists for 2024, 2025 and 2026). The federal Alternative Fuels Data Center lists 54 Missouri entries (7 state incentives, 34 utility or private incentives, 13 laws and regulations), and none of them mentions a bicycle.
EIA Form 861 and the Public Service Commission list 132 electric utilities for Missouri. We read the websites of 117 of them on October 16, 2026, seventy-six in full and forty-one in part, where a site refused some of its pages, and none shows an e-bike rebate.
The other fifteen could not be read (eleven have no website we could find and four refused every route we tried), so for them this page says nothing either way. A program can start at any time, so ask your power company before you buy.
E-Bike Stores in Missouri, Region by Region
Within each region, you will find a store under the town printed in its mailing address, which is the post office's name for the area. The table above counts a store in the county it stands in, so a listing under one town can belong to the county next door, and three of the 66 stand outside every Census place, each placed by its own point with the Census geocoder.

If your city has none: the nearest verified store
Four of Missouri's 13 cities of 50,000 or more have no verified store inside their limits. For each one, the table gives the closest listed store in a straight line from the Census Bureau's point for the city to the store, so your drive will be farther.
| City | People | Nearest verified store | Miles |
|---|---|---|---|
| Joplin | 53,605 | Bicycle Specialists, Webb City | 4.7 |
| O'Fallon | 95,355 | Trek Bicycle St. Charles, St. Peters | 5.2 |
| Independence | 121,629 | E-Bike KC, Sugar Creek | 5.3 |
| Florissant | 51,290 | The Touring Cyclist, Bridgeton | 6.2 |
Joplin has the shortest trip, 4.7 miles to Bicycle Specialists, and Florissant the longest, 6.2 miles to The Touring Cyclist (Census Gazetteer). Phone before you set out: a store that lists e-bikes online may not have your frame size on the floor.

Who sells electric bikes in Missouri?
Any of the 66 storefronts in the listings above, spread over 39 communities in 23 of the 115 counties and the City of St. Louis. St. Louis County has the most, 16. Every listing ends with the check that verified it, and a dealer-map grade links to the maker's own locator, so you can see which brands a store is authorized to sell before you phone.
Where are the e-bike shops in St. Louis?
Inside the City of St. Louis, four verified stores: A & M Cyclery on Arsenal Street, Last Stop Bike Shop on N Newstead Ave, South Side Cyclery on Gravois Avenue and Urban Shark on Foundry Way. St. Louis County adds sixteen, by mailing town St. Louis (4), Ballwin (2), Chesterfield (2), Kirkwood (2), Bridgeton (1), Creve Coeur (1), Ellisville (1), Fenton (1), Town and Country (1) and Webster Groves (1).
St. Louis County's traffic code files pedal-assist, throttle and 28 mph e-bikes under "motorized bicycle" (§ 1202.010), so the code's motorized-bicycle rules reach your e-bike.
Where are the e-bike shops in Kansas City?
Counted by each store's own point, three verified stores stand inside Kansas City's limits (Census geocoder). By county, Jackson has seven, Clay four, Platte one and Cass one; the Kansas City Region's listings give each store's street.
Kansas City's code counts an e-bike as a bicycle when its motor puts out "not more than 1,000 watts" and cannot push it past 20 mph (§ 70-1); on our reading a 28 mph Class 3 falls outside that word, so a 20 mph class suits a Kansas City commute.
Where are the e-bike stores in Springfield, Columbia and St. Charles?
Counted by city limits, Springfield has six, Columbia four and St. Charles one (Census geocoder), the same counts their mailing addresses give. You will find Springfield's under the Ozark Region, Columbia's under the Central Region and St. Charles's under the St. Louis Region, each with its street, phone and the check that verified it.
Are e-bikes legal in Missouri?
Yes. An electric bicycle in Missouri has pedals, a seat and a motor "of less than 750 watts" in one of three classes (§ 301.010(15)), and it may be ridden "where bicycles are permitted to travel" (§ 307.194.7). A bike rated at exactly 750 watts is not under that line on the statute's plain words, so check the label before you buy.
Do you need a license or a helmet for an e-bike in Missouri?
No license, title, registration or insurance: § 307.194.2 takes an e-bike outside motor vehicle law by name. The state's bicycle and e-bike sections, §§ 307.180 to 307.194, set no helmet rule, as read on October 16, 2026. A "motorized bicycle," the code's word for a small engine of up to fifty cubic centimeters (§ 307.180), is a different machine and does need a valid license (§ 307.195).
Can you ride an e-bike on the sidewalk in Missouri?
Your city decides. The state's bicycle sections do not mention sidewalks, and the model ordinance a city can adopt keeps bicycles off sidewalks "within a business district" (§ 300.347). Lee's Summit and Perryville keep a Class 3 off every sidewalk, and Springfield closes its business-district sidewalks to bicycles and micromobility devices.
Are Class 3 e-bikes legal in Missouri?
Yes, from age 16. "No person under sixteen years of age shall operate a class 3 electric bicycle," and every Class 3 needs a speedometer (§ 307.194.8). A path's manager may close it to a Class 3 without a hearing, the state park rule's 20 mph definition leaves a 28 mph bike out, and Kansas City's definition stops at 20 mph.
The Bottom Line
Missouri's 66 verified counters are spread over 23 of its 115 local jurisdictions, and nine of its 13 largest cities have one inside their limits. St. Louis Region lists 29 of them and West Central Region 0. A county with none still has neighbors, so read the listings for the counties around yours before you give up on a test ride.
Bottom line Decide which class your rides need, then find the nearest counter that carries it. Missouri asks for no title, registration or license for an e-bike, and every e-bike we sell ships free to a Missouri address (shipping policy).
Buy at a counter if you want to ride the bike around the lot first, have a mechanic tune the brakes and set the saddle height, and know whose door to knock on when a cable stretches or a spoke loosens.
Buy online if no counter near you stocks the model you want. Check the class and the motor rating on the maker's specification sheet before you order: Missouri's definition asks for "an electric motor of less than 750 watts" (§ 301.010(15)), so a bike listed at 750 watts sits on the line, and one rated below it does not.
Why buy from us when the nearest counter is two counties away. Every e-bike we sell ships free within the contiguous United States, Missouri included. Orders are prepared and dispatched within 1 to 3 business days of confirmation, and most e-bikes arrive within 5 to 10 business days after dispatch (shipping policy). At checkout on October 16, 2026 you could pay by card or with Google Pay.
The warranty is the maker's, and when your bike will not power on, will not charge or shows an error code, we coordinate the repair or the replacement remotely (refund policy).
If the box arrives damaged, report it within 48 hours of delivery, with photos: we file the carrier claim and arrange a replacement or a repair at no cost to you (refund policy). The seller on every order is the company our terms of service name, and support@redtailebikes.com answers order, shipping and warranty questions.
Still deciding between classes? Send sales@redtailebikes.com your town and the roads or trails you plan to ride. The team typically answers email within one business day (contact page), and the advice is free.
Short on storage in a city flat? The folding guide measured the folded size of every folding e-bike we sell, so you can pick by the closet or the car trunk you have before you lift one at the counter.
See the folding picksBefore you pay anywhere, find the permanent label Missouri requires on every e-bike (§ 307.194.3) and check that its class and wattage match what the receipt says you bought.
If you know a Missouri shop that sells e-bikes and is missing here, or you find an error, write to sales@redtailebikes.com; verified corrections are published. Last verified October 16, 2026.

How the count was reached
Every storefront appears once: 66 verified storefronts, all of them listed on this page.
Where the candidates came from. OpenStreetMap returned 64 entries tagged as bicycle shops in Missouri; after unnamed entries were dropped and repeats merged, 58 remained, 24 of them with a website. Eight makers' dealer locators supplied 90 storefront rows: the dealer maps of Bosch, Aventon, Giant, Trek, Specialized, Velotric, Pedego and SWFT's Best Buy pages. Three more makers' locators were read whole for Missouri: QuietKat's lists fourteen Missouri locations, and Magnum's and Lectric's one each.
| What the Google Maps search covered | Places searched |
|---|---|
| Counties and the City of St. Louis | all 115 |
| Incorporated cities, towns and villages of 5,000 or more | 135 |
| Census-designated places of 5,000 or more | 11 |
| ZIP areas of St. Louis and Kansas City | 67 |
| "Electric bike shop" searches, in all of the above | 328 (every one) |
A Google Maps search asked for bike shops, and then for electric bike shops, in each of those places: 656 searches, which with their follow-up reads turned up 79 candidates to check.
The answers the AI engines gave to the 16 questions were read for the businesses they named; thirteen that no other source carried were read on Google Maps and on their own sites like the rest, and eight are counted here and five remain leads.
Reddit was read too: 24 of 39 searches of thirteen Missouri subreddits were answered (r/LeesSummit, branson, jeffersoncity, joplin and stcharles answered none), for the questions riders ask and the shops they name, and the 469 replies under the 31 posts those searches found were read for shop names too.
What counted. A candidate's own website had to offer e-bikes for sale in its own words: a price, a shop category that lists an e-bike, or a sentence that says it sells them. An e-bike named only on a repair menu, a rental rate card, a raffle, a trail notice or a parts page does not qualify, and neither does a vehicle or powersports dealer's e-bike page.
A site that would not load was tried again in a real browser, through a text reader and in an archived copy. Every candidate whose first read named no e-bike for sale was crawled page by page, so a shop whose e-bikes sit deep in its own catalog is counted too.
Each of the forty-four leads that had no site of its own, or none that would load, was then searched by name and looked up again on Google Maps:
- Two sell e-bikes and are listed above: REI Town and Country in Town and Country and Last Stop Bike Shop in St. Louis.
- Five have closed: four are marked permanently closed on Google Maps, and one closed according to a local business paper.
- Three had moved, and the store at the new address is read as its own listing.
- Six turned up pages of their own (a site read through a text reader, a site read over plain http or a Facebook page), and none of them offers an e-bike for sale.
- Seven are not bicycle stores (a gun shop, a gym, a hostel, a bike-share dock, a campus co-op and powersports or scooter businesses).
- One only rents e-bikes.
- One was a second listing of a place already read.
- The other nineteen are still open leads.
A maker's dealer map is the second way in: a store counts when the Bosch, Aventon, Velotric, Giant, Pedego and SWFT map lists its address as an e-bike dealer.
Each store's own Google Maps listing was then read: 63 of the 66 resolved to one business at the listed address that Google shows as open; the other three appear on a Google Maps list card with their hours and no closed notice, and a store Google shows closed, even temporarily, is left out.
How to read the listings
The grade at the end of each listing tells you what confirmed that the store sells e-bikes.
Site checked covers 44 of the 66: the shop's own website offers e-bikes for sale.
Chain site checked covers 5: one website serves several storefronts (for example Bike Stop and Alpine Shop Columbia), so it proves the business sells e-bikes, and the listing tells you which branch you are visiting.
A maker's dealer map covers 17: a maker lists the store as an authorized e-bike dealer, and the grade links to that maker's locator. Of those 17, 15 have a website that did not show e-bikes for sale in its own words (or could not be read) and 2 have no website of their own, so the maker's map is the evidence.

A phone number appears where the sources agree or only one gives one; where a maker's roster and Google Maps disagree, the shop's own site decides, and a listing carries no number when the site settles nothing. Call ahead before you drive, whatever the grade.
Why the map is thin where it is thin
OpenStreetMap carries 26 of the 66 storefronts listed here, so a directory built from that map alone would miss 40 of them. The makers' dealer maps and the statewide Google Maps search each found stores the other sources did not.
Closures were settled on Google Maps and on the shops' own sites: 18 storefronts that a maker's roster or another source still listed are permanently closed.
Limitations
- 58 candidates remain open leads, named in the research files and not counted: 35 with sites that name no e-bike for sale, 6 that could not be confirmed and 17 with no website of their own. Each deserves a phone call before you rule it out; none is a finding that the business does not sell e-bikes.
- Why 6 could not be confirmed: two whose sites would not load, one whose website's domain no longer resolves, one whose only listed site is a social network's front page, one whose own site now shows only a page saying it is shut down and one whose store page names no e-bike while the chain's online shop, which listed e-bikes when last archived, would not load.
- Named and not counted: 23 listings that are not a bicycle store (thirteen motorcycle and powersports businesses, five businesses in other trades, one bike-share station, one club or repair co-op, one marina, one mobile bike service that comes to the rider and one vehicle dealer), 18 closed storefronts, 4 businesses that only rent e-bikes, 7 duplicate listings and 4 old addresses of shops that have moved, each read at its new one.
- County and city lines are the Census Bureau's. A store counts toward a county or a city of 50,000 or more only if its own point stands inside that boundary, so a store mailed from "St. Louis" can count toward St. Louis County or a suburb rather than the City of St. Louis. Populations are the Census Bureau's 2024 estimates.
- Local rules were read for seven jurisdictions. The state's bicycle sections leave sidewalks to local codes, and Missouri has 938 incorporated places; this page cites the codes of Kansas City, North Kansas City, Lee's Summit, Springfield, Perryville, Clay County and St. Louis County, and no others.
- This is a floor, not a census. A shop on no maker's dealer map, not in OpenStreetMap and not in Google Maps would not be found here. A Maps search by name can also return a same-named shop across a state line, so every address was checked for Missouri before a store was counted.
- Demand evidence. The questions this page answers come from 2,617 Google and Bing completions and related searches and 31 Missouri forum posts read on October 16, 2026, and from AI search engines' answers to 16 questions on October 16, 2026: a web-search tool run in place of the engines that refused answered all 16 and Gemini answered 15.
- What could not be measured. Brave Search, ChatGPT, Copilot Search, Google AI Mode and Perplexity returned no usable answer: each served a bot check or no answer to a headless browser, and was not retried in a visible window. No search-volume figure is used: the paid keyword tool's account had no API units on October 16, 2026, so every volume is unmeasured, never zero.
- What would age this page. It is due for re-checking in April 2027, and sooner if a listed shop closes or moves, if the General Assembly amends the sections cited above, if a city or county restricts e-bikes by ordinance, or when the Census Bureau publishes new local estimates.
- Distances are straight lines. The nearest-store table measures from each city's Census point to each store's coordinates; the road distance is longer.
