Both instruments were checked the same day against an address inside Hialeah, which each returned correctly, so the result is a boundary fact rather than a missing map layer.

Miami-Dade Transit — eBikes on Metrobus, Metrorail and Metromover
Hialeah's transit operator is the county's Department of Transportation and Public Works, and it publishes an explicit electric-bike policy on its own Bike and Ride on Transit page, read on September 4, 2026. This is the rare American transit agency that names e-bikes rather than leaving a rider to infer the rule from a bicycle policy, and the numbers on it should shape what you buy.
The rules, in the county's own words
The department writes that electric bicycles "may be carried/walked onto DTPW property and DTPW vehicles including Metrorail, Metromover, and Metrobus" provided that "Motorized e-bikes may only be battery-powered" and "Motorized e-bikes must be switched 'off' while on-board transit vehicles within stations or bus terminals."
On the bus the limit is a number: "E-bikes cannot exceed 75 lbs. and must be safely stowed at all times on the bus exterior bike racks while on Metrobus." The department adds a warning worth reading before you buy a fat-tire bike for a bus commute, that "the exterior bike racks may not be able to safely accommodate all styles of e-bikes (i.e., small, oversized or 'fat' tire e-bikes)."
On rail, the rule is placement rather than weight: e-bikes "shall be safely stowed at all times while on Metromover and in the designated bicycle area while on Metrorail" and "must not block aisles, doors, occupy patron seating or interfere with other patrons." A folding e-bike may come aboard a Metrobus if it is folded and blocks nothing.
Two hard exclusions close the policy. Rental bikes are out: "commercial motorized e-bikes (those which are rented and not personally owned) are prohibited from all transit vehicles." And fuel-powered machines are out everywhere: "Fuel-powered (anything that's combustible or flammable) bikes, scooters or other means of conveyance are NOT permitted on any DTPW vehicles." The department states that failure to abide "may result in a prohibition of transit services."
Seventy-five pounds, and a fat tire may still not fit. Miami-Dade caps a Metrobus e-bike at 75 lb on the exterior rack and warns that oversized and fat-tire bikes may not sit safely on it, while Metrorail and Metromover ask only that the bike be stowed in the designated area and switched off. If a bus leg is part of your commute, weigh the bike and measure the tire before you pay.
Free bike parking exists at the stations. The department publishes that all Metrorail stations and Metrobus Park and Ride lots carry bicycle racks, and that BikeLids, covered lockers you secure with your own padlock, are "available free on a first-come, first-served basis at Metrorail stations and other locations." For a heavy e-bike, parking it at the station beats lifting it onto a bus rack.
Trail Access — Amelia Earhart Park and the Ride East
Hialeah's own riding is street riding: a dense, flat grid where an electric bike replaces short car trips, with Amelia Earhart Park's loops for the weekend and the Miami River and Okeechobee corridors linking toward the metro's wider trail network. Nothing in the city restricts an electric bicycle beyond the state default.
The caution sits east rather than here. Several Miami-Dade municipalities run their own e-bike restrictions, and the two that catch weekend riders most often, Key Biscayne's parks rule and Miami Beach's Beachwalk closure, are quoted with their sources on the Miami page. Your bike is fine on Hialeah streets; the beach-town paths are the trap. Read the two quoted municipal rules on the Miami page once before the first Key Biscayne or Beachwalk plan, because those are ordinances of separate cities and they do not travel with the state default that covers this one.
Florida eBike Laws — What Makes an eBike Legal in Hialeah
Florida keeps this short, and no Hialeah ordinance was found that adds to it. Three questions cover the whole of it.
The state definition
Under Fla. Stat. § 316.003(23), retrieved August 25, 2026, an electric bicycle has operable pedals, a saddle and a motor of less than 750 watts, in one of three classes. Section 316.20655(3) puts the class, the top assisted speed and the wattage on a label attached to the frame.
Buying is paperwork-free
Under § 316.20655(2) an electric bicycle and its rider are "not subject to the provisions of law relating to financial responsibility, driver or motor vehicle licenses, vehicle registration, title certificates." No paperwork at purchase, and no statewide age minimum: subsection (8) leaves age and local access to cities and counties.
That exemption has a consequence worth planning for in a dense city. No insurance policy covers the bike unless you arrange one, so ask about theft cover on a homeowner's or renter's policy in the same conversation as the lock.
The counter test, and what fails it
The test travels everywhere: motor wattage in writing, working pedals, and the class label on the frame. Cross the line with more than 750 watts, or with a throttle and no working pedals, and the machine is not an e-bike under Florida law whatever the listing calls it. Dirt bikes and e-mopeds sold in the same showrooms are the usual case, and none of the exemptions above follows them.
