Citrus Connection — eBikes on Buses
Polk County's bus operator publishes the most specific bike-rack rules found anywhere in this Florida directory, and the numbers decide whether the bike you are about to buy can ride along.
Its Bikes, E-Bikes, Scooters and Personal Mobility Devices page, read on September 6, 2026, states that "Every regular bus offers bike racks on board" and that "All Citrus Connection buses are equipped with easy-to-use bike racks," each carrying up to two bicycles first come, first served.
Then come the limits, and they are unusually exact. The rack takes "single-seat, two-wheel bicycles only," with a maximum weight of 55 pounds per bike, tire width "up to 2.3 inches," wheel size 19 to 29 inches, and a wheelbase up to 44 inches.
Read those two numbers before you shop. A fat-tire e-bike runs 4-inch tires and will not sit in that rack at all, and a great many full-size e-bikes weigh more than 55 pounds with the battery in. If a bus is part of your week, the rack is a specification filter, not an afterthought.
Electric bikes are addressed directly rather than left to inference. The page allows "electric battery-powered bicycles with standard tires" on the rack where they have "sealed gel, lithium-ion, or NiCad batteries" and fit safely, and it allows folded e-bikes inside the bus when they can be stored without blocking aisles, doors, seating or wheelchair spaces.
Three prohibitions round it out: electric devices must be carried or walked onto the property and powered off aboard buses and at terminals, charging at any Citrus Connection facility is prohibited, and damaged batteries are barred from vehicles and property entirely.
Takeaway
If you will ever put the bike on a bus here, the buying rules are set for you: standard tires no wider than 2.3 inches, all-up weight under 55 pounds, a sealed battery, and a folding frame if you want the option of bringing it inside. That is a checked absence rather than an assumption. The "motorized" hits that do appear in the code belong to the pedicab chapter, which governs non-motorized vehicles for hire and touches nothing a private rider owns. The state framework above is the entire rulebook in this city.
A zero cuts both ways, and it is worth understanding which way. There is no local sidewalk ban to trip over here, and no speed cap on the lake loops. There is also nothing written down to appeal to when a path gets crowded, which is why the courtesy note above is doing real work rather than filling space.

Electric dirt bikes in the Surron and Talaria mold generally exceed 750 watts or lack operable pedals, which puts them outside § 316.003(23) and outside every exemption that follows from it on any Florida road.

The Florida sweep of 2026-08-25 checked all 63 cities above 50,000 residents against Census Vintage 2024 populations and read each candidate storefront's own published page. Lakeland returned three trading floors behind roughly six listings.
Each address was then run through the Census Bureau's geocoder on 2026-09-06. Two returned "Lakeland city" and are counted. One returned Polk County and the Lakeland census county division with no incorporated place, and is listed uncounted.

- Crossroads Cycles. Not a separate shop. The same floor, address and phone as American Iron Cycles Lakeland, listed under a second trading name by every aggregator that carries it.
