What a row on this page proves

On January 30, 2026, a bankruptcy court in Washington State entered an order approving the sale of Rad Power Bikes' assets, a brand valued at $1.65 billion at its 2021 peak.

A Rad bought that week came with a warranty; whether the brand behind it would keep selling was something the buyer had to piece together. That is the gap this directory closes: for every brand that sells to Americans, one retrieved record that proves it, with the date it was read.

The record is the whole test. This is not a ranking and not a recommendation.

A brand is here because the census file holds a proof for it: the brand's own shipping policy, read on its own site, saying it ships to US addresses; a retailer's own product data (Best Buy's brand facet, Walmart's listings, Costco's lineup); a US multi-brand bike dealer's own inventory feed; our own shelf; or a CPSC recall dated 2015 or later, since the Commission does not recall what was never sold here.

Two grades sit behind those proofs. A-grade is one of the five records above; 332 of the 348 brands carry it. B-grade means the brand's own site names the United States but publishes no shipping page that can be quoted; 16 brands sit there, marked † in the list.

Sold direct: the 169 brands that sell to you directly

169 of the 348 take an order on their own site, and for 67 of them the proof is a sentence read on the brand's own site. More brands reach you through a local bike shop than through any other route, and that section is below.

Buying direct is a checkout page, a box on a freight pallet, and a policy that says which states it will go to. A brand that takes the order online can still hand it to a local shop to fill: Trek does, as the dealer section shows.

The wording of those policies tells you something the brochures do not. Read in full, 61 of the 67 draw the line at the mainland, and 6 of those 61 still ship to Hawaii for a fee. You can read all 67, each with the sentence that decides it, in the shipping-policy file (CSV).

If you live outside the contiguous states, read the shipping page before you read the spec sheet: it decides whether your order can be filled at all.

What the shipping policies actually say

Where a policy does not say, as 12 do not for Hawaii, ask the brand in writing before you order.

You pay the price on the page: no dealer margin, no floor model, and usually no one to assemble it for you. What you trade for it is service.

Buy direct and the warranty claim is yours to file with the maker, on the terms its warranty page sets out. A local shop that did not sell the bike is under no obligation to work on it; our store directory says which kinds will.

Some of the biggest names in the country live here. Aventon, Lectric, Ride1Up, Velotric, Juiced, Heybike, Jasion and Eskute all sell direct, and several also sit on a big-box shelf, which is why they appear in two sections of this page.

Rad Power Bikes sells direct too, under a court-approved sale since January, which the 2026 section covers from the docket.

On the shelf at Best Buy, Walmart and Costco

Three national chains sell e-bikes in volume, and each one's shelf was read from its own product data rather than from its advertising. Best Buy's Electric Bikes category listed 38 brands across 146 listings, of which 143 were e-bikes, two were electric trikes and one was a road bike.

Walmart's listings named 32 brands across 72 products. Costco's lineup carried 12 brands across 21 listings, some online only and some warehouse only.

A big-box shelf is a different kind of proof from a shipping policy. The retailer has taken title to the stock, or has let a marketplace seller list it under the retailer's roof, and either way a US consumer can put it in a cart today.

What the shelf does not tell you is who stands behind the bike afterwards. Walmart's listings mix first-party stock with marketplace sellers whose names are the seller's, and the 2 rows marked ‡ in the list are those.

Jetson appears at Best Buy, Walmart and Costco. Hyper, GoTrax, Razor, HiBoy and Isinwheel sit on two of the three shelves.

A brand that is on a national shelf and ships direct and has a dealer network is a brand with several ways to reach you and several ways to reach it when something goes wrong.

The 102 brands you can reach more than one way

102 of the 348 brands sell through at least two of the seven channels. The table below is the 29 that reach you three ways or more, and the full set is in the directory's channel lists above.

Sold through bike dealers: the brands that never ship a box

There is a whole segment of the market that a shipping-policy test cannot see, because it does not ship.

Specialized, Giant and Cannondale are stocked by the US bike shops read for this page, and so is Trek, whose own site routes an online order to a local Trek retailer for pickup or same-day delivery. The brands that ride alongside them in a good store are stocked by the same shops: Cervelo, Gazelle, Momentum, Pivot, Salsa, Santa Cruz, Urban Arrow, Yuba.

For most of them you walk into a store that stocks them, so the dealer channel was read from the shops' own inventory, at the scale the channel actually has.

2,201 US bike-shop websites were asked for their product catalog, on two different shop platforms. 207 published one on the first, between them 296,217 items, and 42 more published one on the second: Mike's Bikes, Bicycle Warehouse, Erik's, Bike Mart, Clever Cycles, Fanatik, Planet Cyclery and 166 more.

A vendor counts here only where the shop's own catalog files a complete electric machine under it. That distinction does the heavy lifting: Schwalbe, SRAM, Maxxis, Abus, Shimano, Bosch, Kuat and Muc-Off all appear on products tagged for e-bikes, and all of them sell tires, drivetrains, locks, motors, racks and lube rather than bikes. A tire that says "E-Bike" on it is a tire.

The dealer channel buys you something the direct channel cannot: a person who assembled the bike, will fit it to you, and will see it again for its first service. You usually pay more for the same motor and battery, and what you are buying with the difference is that person.

200 brands are on this page through a bike shop's own inventory, more than through any other route, and several of the biggest names in the country are among them.

Dealer or direct: the trade-off

What a shop gives you is a person. What it costs you is the dealer margin, a lineup limited to the brands that shop carries, and a wait for whatever is not on the floor.

We take the margin off and keep the service: every e-bike we sell ships free in the contiguous United States, and we open and run your maker's warranty claim from a US desk rather than handing you a phone number.

If you want the fitting and the first service, a shop earns its margin. If you want the price and the paperwork handled, start with the brands we carry, then find a local shop for the tune-up.

Named by the CPSC: recalls as proof of presence

A recall is the one government document that proves a brand sold a product to Americans, because the Consumer Product Safety Commission does not recall things that were never sold here. 23 firms are on this page through an e-bike recall dated 2015 or later, read from the CPSC's own recall records.

First, a recall names the legal entity, and the entity is not always the brand on the down tube. Cannondale's recall names Cycling Sports Group; Ascend's names Pacific Cycle; Gyroor's names Shenzhen Chirrey; Linus Bike's names Shenzhen Xidesheng.

Each of those rows carries the brand the recall itself names, in its title or in its brand field, and the recall is linked in this section where it is discussed. A bolt supplier named in a Trek and Electra recall is not a bike brand and is not on the list.

Second, a recall proves sale on its date. It does not prove the brand is on the market now, so a recall from 2001 or 2005 is not evidence for a 2026 directory, and three brands have no trace newer than that.

Recalls from 2015 onward are counted as presence, never as a verdict: Specialized in March 2026, Super73 in February 2025, VIVI in July 2025, Trek in 2019 and again in December 2025, Pedego in 2015.

A recall is not the only CPSC document. The Commission also issues warnings about products whose makers have not agreed to a recall, and two of those name a brand on our own shelf; the next section carries them.

Every stocked brand has its own collection, and each one is the whole lineup: Eunorau, Addmotor, Eahora, Ridstar, Himiway, Velotric, Hitway, Freesky, Samebike, Riding'times, Tesway, YVY and Qiolor.

Ridstar and YVY: the record on our own shelf

Two of those 13 share an owner and a record, and the record goes here rather than in a footnote. YVY is Ridstar under another name: YVY's own company page gives its business name as HK Ridstar Trade Limited, and our Ridstar profile sets out the other proofs from the companies' own sites.

The CPSC has issued two 2026 warnings on three Ridstar models we sell.

26-337, March 19 states that "the manufacturer, Huizhou Xingqishi Sporting Goods Co., Ltd., of China, has refused to agree to an acceptable recall." 26-584, June 25 states that the manufacturer "has been unresponsive to CPSC's requests for information about these products or a recall."

A warning is not a recall, which is why Ridstar is absent from the recall channel above. The Ridstar profile carries the Commission's words and the model names in full, and every Ridstar and YVY product page opens with them.

Which of our brands fits which ride

A brand is a promise about a whole lineup; a bike is chosen for a ride. The guides below match a bike to the ride, and each one names the brands it picked from, read from the guide's own picks. Only brands we sell appear here; every other brand on this page is reported, never recommended.

Every pick in those guides is a bike we stock, so the shipping, the warranty and the installments are the same on all of them.

What changed in 2026: Rad Power Bikes, and what it means for your warranty

On December 15, 2025, Rad Power Bikes Inc. filed a voluntary Chapter 11 petition in the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District of Washington, case number 25-02183, entry 1 on the docket: "VOLUNTARY Petition Under Chapter 11 and Accompanying Documents Non-Individual". Trade press reported the filing as December 16.

The docket records December 15, and where the two disagree, the docket is the record.

On December 16 the case was placed under joint administration with Summit Collective, Inc., case number 25-02182 (entry 3), and it is on that lead docket that the rest is written. Bid procedures were approved on December 18 (entry 50).

A notice of sale went out on December 31 with a hearing set for January 30 (entry 83). On January 23, 2026, counsel for Life Electric Vehicles Holdings Inc. entered an appearance (entry 139) and the debtors filed the auction results the same day (entry 144).

On January 30, 2026, the court entered an order approving the sale of the assets free and clear of liens (entry 180).

The price, reported by Escape Collective at $13.3 million against a 2021 valuation of $1.65 billion, comes from the trade press. So does the balance sheet: $32.1 million in assets against $72.8 million in liabilities, with U.S. Customs and Border Protection as the largest unsecured creditor at $8.3 million in tariffs.

What matters to a buyer is the last fact: Rad Power is still selling to Americans. Its own shipping policy, read in full on September 17, 2026, covers the contiguous United States and "select zip codes" in Alaska and Hawaii, at $149 a bike.

Escape Collective names Life Electric Vehicles Holdings Inc. as the winning bidder, and its counsel is on the docket from January 23. Whether the purchaser assumed existing warranties is set by the sale agreement.

How to check any e-bike brand in ten minutes

This page checked 348 brands with one method, and the method is yours to use on the 349th brand, the one that launched last week and is not here yet. Six checks, in this order. Five of them are a page you can open for yourself; the sixth is two numbers you ask a brand for.

One: the shipping policy

Find the link in the footer, or add /policies/shipping-policy to the site's address if it runs on Shopify. Read for the states it names. "Lower 48" means what it says. No shipping page at all, on a site that takes your money, is a reason to stop.

Two: the recall search, and the warnings

Go to the CPSC's recall search and type the brand name, then the name of the company on the shipping page, because a recall may name the importer rather than the brand.

Then search the Commission's warnings the same way; a warning names a product whose maker has not agreed to a recall. A result is not a verdict; it is a maker that fixed something in public, or one that has not. Read what it fixed.

Three: the certification mark

UL 2849 is, in UL Solutions' own words, the "Standard for Electrical Systems for eBikes", covering "e-bikes' electrical drive train system, battery system and charger system combinations"; UL 2271 is the battery standard.

New York City's Local Law 39 of 2023 "mandates that all battery-powered micromobility devices" sold there, e-bikes included, be certified. As amended by Local Law 50 of 2024, the city's code requires the certification, or the testing laboratory's logo or name, on the bike, its battery, its packaging or its paperwork. A bike sold online must show it on the product listing page as well.

Repeat violations within two years draw a city civil penalty of up to $2,000, or up to $500 under the online-listing rule. New York State's own law now requires a certified battery statewide. Wherever you live, a bike with no mark on it comes with a battery whose certification nobody has shown you.

The mark belongs on the bike and on the spec page, and the certificate number behind it is what you ask the brand for.

Four: the warranty in writing

Not the number of years on the banner. The page that says what is covered, what voids it, who pays shipping on a claim, and whether the battery is covered for cycles or for months. Save it to your own files the day you order.

Five: a US address

If a brand ships to you but has nowhere in America for you to ship a return to, your warranty is a phone number in another time zone. You will usually find the address on the contact page or the warranty page; if it is on neither, you have your answer.

Six: the wattage and the assisted top speed

Ask a brand for both before you order. Federal law's low-speed electric bicycle, 15 U.S.C. § 2085(b), needs "fully operable pedals", a motor "of less than 750 watts (1 h.p.)", and a motor-only top speed under 20 mph on the flat with a 170-pound rider. Those limits govern consumer products; your state's vehicle code draws its own.

Hawaii is one that did. Act 259, signed July 15, 2026, created the "high-speed electric device": a machine "with a motor exceeding seven hundred fifty watts and capable of speeds over twenty-eight miles per hour" (§ 9), both limbs together.

No one may ride one "on a public roadway, a bicycle lane, a travel path, a bicycle facility, or other public area, such as a street, highway, or sidewalk" (Act 259 § 1). Riding one there is a traffic infraction, and for a violation the act lets a police officer seize a machine that is "non-road-legal or nonconforming" (§ 6). What is taken is the bike you paid for, not just a ticket.

Hawaii already required a low-speed e-bike to be registered for a "permanent registration fee of $30." Section 5 of the act extends that to every electric bicycle and adds that failing to register "may result in citation or temporary impoundment."

So get both numbers, then read them against your own state's rules. If a brand does not publish them, ask before you order: you cannot run that test without them.

Three names you will see elsewhere that are not on the list

Three brands appear in the CPSC's e-bike recall records and nowhere else in the channels read for this page, and every one of those recalls is dated before 2015: EV Global, TH!NK and TidalForce.

A recall of a part rather than a bike does not put its maker on this page. A motor-controller recall names Bafang, which made the controller, and a battery-pack recall names Electric Motion Systems; neither company is on the list. The three brands above are a different case: a recall from 2001 proves a company sold e-bikes in 2001, and it proves nothing about 2026, so they are not counted.

BMC is on the list through a US bike shop's catalog. Its e-bike recall, as BMC-USA, is the 2014 Stromer recall, from the years when BMC distributed Stromer in the United States; Stromer itself is counted above on its own 2019 recall, which names a US subsidiary in Vista, California.

TH!NK, EV Global and TidalForce recalled e-bikes between 2001 and 2005, and those recalls are the earliest e-bike records in the Commission's files.

Where this count comes from, and the number it replaces

Ask an answer engine how many e-bike brands sell in the United States and you will be told "about 250", a figure that traces to one retailer's editorial page, stated in one sentence with no source, no method and no date.

Ask for the list itself and the engine answers from brand-authored listicles, a "top 10" written by one maker, a "best brands" written by another, a "250+" written by a third. Not one cites a registry, a retailer's data, or a count with a method.

This page is the count with a method: 348 brands sell to Americans today.

Seven channels were read, each from its own data on a stated date, and every brand was deduplicated on a folded name and a table of legal-entity aliases, so that "Lectric eBikes" at Best Buy and "lectric" on its own site are one row, and so are Aventon and the Ride Aventon Inc. named on its recall.

332 of the 348 carry A-grade proof and 200 are stocked by a US bike shop, and the census file lists every one with its record.

Search interest was measured for every brand on this page on Google Trends, geography set to the United States, January 1 to September 11, 2026, as one chained comparison anchored on "aventon ebike" so that every figure sits on one scale. The figure is a relative index, not a search volume.

19 brands score 1.0 or higher against Aventon's 32.28.

Two of the larger names on our own shelf, Riding'times and Qiolor, are searched with a model name attached rather than as bare brand names; our own search data shows the queries arriving as a Riding'times moped by model, a Qiolor retro by model, and a street-legality question about one machine.

The often-repeated "about 250" is one retailer's figure, published without a source, method or date, and it is lower than the number you can actually verify. Treat 348 as a floor: it is what 207 US bike shop catalogs, seven retail channels and the federal recall record can be shown to hold, and Amazon is not among them.

What are the most reliable e-bike brands?

The most reliable e-bike brands are the ones whose records you can check before you buy: a recall history read in full at the CPSC, a warranty page saved in writing, a US address for returns, and a UL 2849 certificate number on request.

This page does not rank reliability, because it did not measure it. The brands page compares our stocked brands on what each maker publishes, and each brand profile in this series carries the same ledger.

Which e-bike brands should I avoid?

Before you buy from any brand, confirm it has a shipping policy, a US address and a warranty in writing rather than on a banner, and ask for the certificate number behind any certification it claims. Then run the brand and its importer through the CPSC's recall search and the Commission's warnings.

Two 2026 CPSC warnings, one for a fire hazard and one for a crash hazard, name Ridstar, a brand we sell; the record is stated above rather than left for you to find. Beyond that, this page names no brand to avoid, because a list built on evidence cannot rank what it has not measured.

Which e-bike brands are made in the USA?

Few, going by the recalls behind this list. Of those since 2015, 22 name where the whole e-bike was made: 18 name a country in Asia, 11 of them China; 2 name only a European country; and 2 name the United States, both for Santa Cruz's Heckler 9.

An exception says so on its own site, as Antic does: "Antic is not just designed in California but also being built in our factory in San Jose, California." That kind of statement, in the maker's own words, is the only origin evidence the brand profiles accept; this page records where a brand sells, not where it builds.

Which e-bike brands are UL certified?

Of the 206 e-bikes on our own shelf, 95 model pages publish a UL 2849 certification, and the brands page sets out which ones model by model. Certification is published per model rather than per brand, so the model page is the place to check it and the brand name will not tell you.

For any other brand the check is the certificate number, which a certified maker can produce on request; UL 2849 covers the electrical system and UL 2271 the battery, and the mark sits on the frame and on the spec page.

Which e-bike brands use Bosch motors?

Bosch publishes its own US list of partner brands, and 17 brands on this page are on it: Benno, Brompton, Cannondale, Co-op Cycles, Electra, Gazelle, Haibike, Izip, Pivot Cycles, Priority Bicycles, Salsa Cycles, Santa Cruz, Schwinn, Tern, Trek, Urban Arrow, Yuba.

Who actually makes e-bikes?

Fewer companies make e-bikes than there are brands selling them. The CPSC's own recall records show it: Linus Bike's recall names Shenzhen Xidesheng Bicycle Co., Gyroor's names Shenzhen Chirrey, VIVI's names Guangzhou Plenty Bicycle.

A brand can be a design, a warranty and a US office in front of a factory somewhere else. Nothing is wrong with that, but it is why the warranty page and the US address matter more than the logo.

What is the best electric bike company?

The best electric bike company depends on the ride: the brands page compares our stocked brands on what each maker publishes, and the buying guides answer it for a use, commuting, cargo, hunting, a heavy rider, a tall rider, a first e-bike. This page's job is different.

It tells you who is actually selling here, so the choice starts from the whole field rather than from the names an engine happened to remember.

Should I buy from a brand or a marketplace?

From the brand, or from a retailer that takes title to the stock, whenever the price is close.

A marketplace listing under a retailer's roof can carry a seller's name rather than a brand's, and the 2 rows marked ‡ on this page do. The bike is genuinely for sale; ask the seller in writing who honors the warranty before you order.

Best Buy's, Costco's and most of Walmart's first-party listings are the retailer's own stock, and our shelf comparisons for Best Buy, Costco and Walmart say which is which.

Are American e-bike brands always made in the USA?

No. An American brand is a company headquartered here, and its bikes can be built anywhere: Aventon's recall names Ride Aventon Inc., of Brea, California, as the importer and China as the country of manufacture. The distinction matters for the warranty, which is honored from the US office, and for parts, which ship from a US warehouse when the brand has one.

Whether a bike is built here is a separate claim that each brand makes for itself, and the profiles read it from the maker's own statement.

Which e-bike companies ship to Hawaii and Alaska?

Six of the 67 shipping policies read for this page say they ship to Hawaii: Antic, Evelo, Favoritebikes, Kingbull, Rad Power Bikes and Ride1up. Four of them also ship to Alaska, and all six charge for it; five name the fee, from $149 to $650 or more a bike.

Of the other 61, 45 say they do not ship a bike to Hawaii, 3 exclude it from free shipping and do not say whether paid shipping is offered, and 12 do not say. Magicycle's page says both: a $500 fee "per bike shipped to Hawaii or Alaska" and delivery "exclusively to Mainland US." Read the whole policy before the spec page; the shipping-policy file (CSV) holds each one's sentence.

Redtail eBikes' shipping policy names both states and asks you to check with us first: "Alaska, Hawaii, U.S. territories, P.O. boxes, and remote areas may incur additional charges or be excluded — please contact us before ordering." Send us the bike and your address before you check out, and in Hawaii read the Act 259 limits on high-speed machines first.

One row per counted brand: the grade, the record that put it on the list, the channels it sells through, and the date the record was read. The full file, with every column, is the census CSV.

Sources, limitations and how this page was verified

Limitations

1. This count is a floor, and an earlier edition of this page published a lower one. The independent-dealer channel was measured on three shops and reported 16 brands; 2,201 US bike-shop websites were asked for their catalog, 207 published one, and that channel holds 200. The page total moved from 168 to 348 on September 14, 2026. Every count above, and the census CSV, was recomputed together.
2. The population is still not closed. Amazon is not read at all: amazon.com/robots.txt names this publisher's crawler and disallows the whole site, so the route is declined rather than worked around. Target, Scheels, Dick's, Lowe's, Tractor Supply, Academy, Home Depot, Backcountry and Jenson returned client-rendered shells or access denials; REI beyond its first page rendered no products; the PeopleForBikes and LEVA member directories and UL's Product iQ registry sit behind logins or client rendering. Each is a scheduled route, and a brand absent here was not observed, never ruled out.
3. Walmart's shelf is read from its product pages, not from its browse listings. Walmart resolves assortment from the caller's network location, and a browse count taken from outside the US returns a non-US assortment, so it is a fact about the caller and not about Walmart's US catalog.
4. The pool closes like this: 2,201 US bike-shop websites, drawn from this site's own verified shop directory and from OpenStreetMap's bicycle-shop records for 50 states and the District of Columbia. Of those, 208 served a product catalog, one of them our own store, leaving 207 third-party catalogs; 1,445 answered that they have no such endpoint, which is a real negative, and 42 of them served one on a second platform; and 548 did not answer at all, the retries run at a 50-second timeout after a rate limit had cleared. Their shelves are unread, not empty. California is the one state OpenStreetMap could not be read for, and it is also the state the shop directory covers most heavily, at 415 domains.
5. 26 vendor rows whose every retrieved product was a pedal-less machine — electric dirt bikes, mini motos, pit bikes and balance bikes — were removed from the dealer channel. The test is that a bicycle has pedals: 15 U.S.C. § 2085(b) defines a low-speed electric bicycle as one "with fully operable pedals and an electric motor of less than 750 watts" whose motor-only speed is "less than 20 mph", and only the pedals limb was used here, as an inclusion test for this count and not as a legal characterization of any machine. Three of those makers — Windone, Happyrun and NAVEE — remain in the 348 on separate evidence from a national retailer or their own storefront, because a brand can sell both.
6. 133 vendor rows were removed, 90 of them read one by one against the product title the shop published: 52 shops whose own name sat in the vendor field of someone else's bike, 26 pedal-less machines, 22 second spellings of a brand already counted, 14 consignment sellers' names, 11 sales descriptions written into a vendor field, 5 parts makers, 2 wholesalers and 1 shop tour.
7. US availability was read from each brand's own shipping-policy page or from its storefront priced for a US address, never from the storefront locale a visitor is served, because a visitor's locale is not evidence of where a brand ships.
8. 16 brands carry B-grade proof and are marked † in the list: the site names the United States but publishes no shipping page that can be quoted.
9. Of 239 brand leads carried forward from an editorial brand index, 72 verified as selling to US buyers and 7 of those were then rejected by reading the page: one resolved to a bike-rental and shuttle operator, one to a manuals archive for a discontinued brand, one to a parked directory page, one to a repair shop with a similar name, two stated no US destination, and one resolved to a brand already counted under its current name. 32 showed no US signal and 135 could not be looked at.
10. 2 Walmart marketplace seller names are listed as sold, which they are, and marked ‡; they are not brands with a lineup.
11. The Rad Power sale price, purchaser and balance sheet are trade-press figures until the filings that carry them are read; the docket entries cited by number are the court's own.
12. This census is published only here and as its CSV. No second source reports it, so its rows carry SOLE-PUBLISHER in the ledger rather than a corroborating source that does not exist. The same is true of a count read from a retailer's own data, a shop's own catalog and a brand's own shipping policy: each has one publisher, and the ledger says so.
13. Google Trends returned no reportable series for "qiolor" and "ridingtimes ebike", and a measured series for "riding times bike" whose related queries were empty and whose regional peak was Wyoming, which this page does not attribute to the brand. Those readings are recorded in the research file and are not printed as brand demand.
14. This page expires when the next census runs, and the date at the top is the date the evidence was read.
