Samebike RS-A02 Plus Folding Fat Tire Electric Bike

Folds to fit a trunk, pulls like it shouldn't. The RS-A02 Plus in one of five colorways — the only Samebike currently stocked in all of them.

Quick answer

The Samebike RS-A02 Plus is the strongest folding bike Samebike makes: a 1200W hub motor (1,800W peak, 100+ N·m) with full suspension and hydraulic disc brakes on a 6061 aluminum frame that folds in half for a car trunk. Removable 48V 17Ah battery, five colors — all in stock — at $1,199, matched to Samebike's price with free lower-48 shipping.

Who the RS-A02 Plus is for

Buy it if

  • Drivers first, riders second: the double fold (frame and stem) drops it to 37.8 × 29.1 × 39.8 in — sized for a sedan trunk, an RV bay or an apartment corner
  • Hill country on a folder — 100+ N·m and a 20° published climb rating are numbers small-wheel folding bikes usually can't print
  • Riders across a wide height band: the straddle frame and 31.9–37.8 in seat range fit most adults, and Samebike markets it exactly that way
  • Anyone who wants the full spec — hydraulic brakes, full suspension, 1,800W peak — without giving up portability to get it

Look elsewhere if

  • Every pound matters in your trunk lift: at 33 kg (73 lb) this folds small but does not fold light
  • You ride mostly smooth city pavement — the cheaper RS-A02 Pro gives up some brake and motor spec you may never miss and saves $200
  • Your state's bike-lane rules stop at 750W or 28 mph; the Plus's 45 km/h (28 mph) top speed and 1,800W peak put it at or past most class limits — check before commuting on it
  • You need a UL-listed battery: Samebike doesn't publish one for this model

Frame and stem both hinge: 67.3 in of bike becomes a 37.8 × 29.1 × 39.8 in package that stands upright in a trunk. Samebike publishes both folded and unfolded dimensions, which is exactly the honesty a trunk-measuring buyer needs.

Samebike RS-A02 Plus Folding Fat Tire Electric Bike — The strongest motor on any Samebike folder
Powertrain

The strongest motor on any Samebike folder

A 1200W-rated hub peaking at 1,800W with over 100 N·m of torque — matching the retro M20's output in a frame half its weight. Samebike rates it for 20° climbs; five assist levels and a thumb throttle split the work however you like.

Full suspension over 20×4 rubber

An adjustable dual-shoulder fork and rear suspension work with four-inch fat tires, so broken pavement and gravel read as texture instead of punishment. The upgraded fork is lockable for smooth roads.

Samebike RS-A02 Plus Folding Fat Tire Electric Bike — Rated, not implied
Weatherproofing

Rated, not implied

The whole bike carries an IP54 rating with IP64 on the motor, battery and display — published numbers, rare at this price. Samebike still advises against heavy rain, and so do we; the difference is you know what the bike is built to shrug off.

The honest ledger

Green flags

  • IP54 whole-bike / IP64 electronics water-resistance ratings, published — most makers at this price say "don't ride in heavy rain" without committing to a number
  • All five colorways buyable at the source at our 2026-08-23 sync — the only current Samebike with a full color wall in stock
  • Hydraulic discs plus full suspension on a folder: the two specs folding frames most often sacrifice, both present
  • Published fold dimensions (37.8 × 29.1 × 39.8 in) — you can measure your trunk before you buy instead of hoping

Red flags

  • 73 lb is serious weight for a folding bike — the fold solves storage, not carrying; think trunk floors and elevators, not third-floor walk-ups
  • Samebike publishes no UL 2849 / UL 2271 certification for the battery or drive system
  • The 130 km (81 mi) range headline is a lowest-assist lab figure; throttle-heavy riding will see well under half of it — Samebike's own throttle-only claim is 65 km (40 mi)
  • At 1,800W peak and 28 mph it exceeds several states' e-bike definitions; where you can ride it is a rules question before it's a bike question

How to read this spec sheet

Manufacturer spec pages contain marketing, and marketing sometimes disagrees with the spec table an inch below it. Rather than quietly pick numbers, here is every place Samebike's own page disagrees with itself for this model, and which figure we print:

  • Samebike's intro paragraph calls the motor "100+Nm 1200W" while the deeper marketing panel says "maximum torque > 100 N·m and 20° climbing" — consistent for once; both quoted.
  • The rear rack shown in Samebike's gallery ships as a standard fitting ("robust rear rack" is a listed feature, not an accessory add-on).

What we counted

We pulled Samebike US's entire live catalog on 2026-08-23 and counted what was actually buyable: 29 of 32 bike variants across 10 models. The three unbuyable variants are all one model's colorways (M20: Black, LightSteelBlue, DarkGreen); every other bike was buyable in every published colorway on the pull date. This listing mirrors that feed — we only sell configurations Samebike can actually supply, and we re-sync price and availability against their store rather than guessing.

Redtail original analysis, counted from Samebike US's public storefront feed on 2026-08-23 (one shipping-surcharge SKU excluded). Availability moves; email support@redtailebikes.com for a combination not shown here.

Frequently asked questions

Plus or Pro — which RS-A02 should I buy?

Pay the extra $200 for the Plus if any of these matter: hydraulic brakes (Pro runs mechanical), 1,800W peak versus 1,500W, a 17Ah battery versus 15Ah, or the fifth colorway. Keep the $200 if you ride flat, smooth routes where the Pro's spec is already more than enough. Same fold concept, same aluminum frame family, same warranty.

Will it actually fit in my car?

Measure your trunk against Samebike's published fold: 37.8 in long, 29.1 in wide, 39.8 in tall (96 × 74 × 101 cm). It fits most sedan trunks with the seats up and nearly any SUV cargo area. The honest caveat is the 73 lb lift to get it in there — load it wheels-first on the bumper and pivot.

Can I ride it in the rain?

Samebike publishes IP54 for the whole bike and IP64 for the motor, battery and display — dust-protected and splash-to-jet resistant on the electronics — and still advises avoiding heavy rain, since wet weather also cuts traction and battery efficiency. Normal wet-road commuting is inside the rating; storms and hub-deep puddles are not.

What range should I plan for?

Samebike's claims: 40 mi throttle-only, up to 81 mi at the lowest pedal-assist level. Between those poles, assist level, rider weight, hills and wind decide it. Plan a daily route around the 40-mile figure and the 81 becomes a pleasant surprise instead of a disappointment. The pack is removable and recharges in 4–6 hours.

Is a 1,800W-peak folder street-legal?

Not everywhere, and we'd rather say so on the product page than after checkout. Most US states define e-bike classes up to 750W and 28 mph; the RS-A02 Plus reaches 28 mph with an 1,800W peak, and Samebike claims no US class for it. Where it rides legally depends on your state and sometimes your city — our law guides on the Redtail journal cover every state we've published.

What does the warranty cover and who do I call?

Samebike's published terms: 3 years on the frame, 1 year on battery (prorated after year one), motor and components; bundled free accessories aren't covered. You never chase Samebike yourself — email support@redtailebikes.com with your order number and evidence photos, and we run the claim. Report any shipping damage within 48 hours of delivery.
