Samebike CREST Fat Tire Mountain Electric Bike

The biggest single battery Samebike sells, hidden under the saddle. The CREST is built for the rider whose question is always 'how far?'
The Samebike CREST is the range bike of the lineup: a 960Wh (48V 20Ah) seat-integrated battery — the biggest single pack Samebike sells — driving a 1000W hub (1,800W peak) through a torque sensor and a Shimano 8-speed drivetrain, with 180mm hydraulic discs and suspension at both ends. Black, White or Navy at $1,299, matched to Samebike, free lower-48 shipping.
- 960WhLargest single Samebike pack
- 1,800WPeak motor power
- Torque sensorAssist that reads your legs
- 99 miMax claimed range
- 8-speedShimano drivetrain
Who the CREST is for
Buy it if
- Distance-first riders: 960Wh is the largest single battery in Samebike's current US range, claiming up to 160 km (99 mi) at low assist
- Riders who care how assist feels — the torque sensor meters power off how hard you pedal, where cheaper cadence systems just switch on
- Commuters with real hills between them and work: 70+ N·m, 180mm hydraulic rotors and an 8-speed cluster is a complete hill kit
- Anyone choosing between this and the STORM on looks and $0 of price difference — same platform, different character (see the comparison)
Look elsewhere if
- Weight is your enemy: the steel frame and big pack total a published 45 kg (99 lb)
- You need to know the battery comes out for desk charging — Samebike calls the CREST's pack "seat-integrated" and nowhere says it's removable; ask us to confirm with Samebike before you buy if that's decisive
- You need app connectivity or fast charging — those are the STORM's additions at the same price
- Your rules require a UL-listed system: Samebike publishes no UL certification for it

960 watt-hours, integrated and honest
The 48V 20Ah pack lives inside the seat tower — the biggest single battery Samebike sells, claiming 160 km (99 mi) at the lowest assist level and 75+ km in its 'mild electric' figure. Integration buys clean lines and theft resistance; note that Samebike's page never describes this pack as removable, so plan on charging at the bike.

A torque sensor, not a switch
Cadence sensors give you all-or-nothing help; the CREST's torque sensor reads pedal pressure and scales the motor to match, so assist arrives like stronger legs instead of a shove. It's the difference you notice within one block, and the CREST's quietest advantage over bikes $300 up.

Eight gears against the hills
The Shimano 8-speed cluster gives the CREST one more climbing gear than any 7-speed sibling — meaningful on a 99 lb machine — and the 1,800W peak hub with 70+ N·m does the rest. Five assist levels and a thumb throttle round out the controls.

Suspension and stopping, both specified
A 100mm fork and 30mm rear shock take the edges off trail and curb; 180mm hydraulic rotors at both ends bring the mass down from speed without drama. Reflective-striped 26×4.0 tires add the visibility touch fat bikes usually skip.
The honest ledger
Green flags
- A torque sensor at $1,299 — the spec that most changes how an e-bike feels to pedal, and one that fat-tire bikes at this price rarely carry
- Shimano 8-speed where the rest of the range runs 7 — one more gear exactly where a 99 lb bike wants it, at the climbing end
- Named suspension travel: 100mm fork and 30mm rear shock, published — most budget full-suspension listings say 'dual suspension' and hope you don't ask
- Front and rear 180mm hydraulic rotors — sized for the bike's actual mass
Red flags
- 99 lb published weight — the price of steel plus 960Wh; racking or carrying this bike is a plan, not an afterthought
- Samebike describes the 960Wh pack as seat-integrated and never uses the word "removable" for it (unlike its folders' pages) — plan on charging at the bike until we confirm otherwise with Samebike
- Samebike's range claims span 70–160 km depending on which panel you read; the 160 km headline is lowest-assist — its own 'mild electric mode' figure is 75+ km (47 mi)
- No UL 2849 / UL 2271 certification published; and 1,800W peak with 50 km/h (31 mph) capability is outside most states' e-bike class definitions — check yours before street commuting

How to read this spec sheet
Manufacturer spec pages contain marketing, and marketing sometimes disagrees with the spec table an inch below it. Rather than quietly pick numbers, here is every place Samebike's own page disagrees with itself for this model, and which figure we print:
- Range: the stat strip says 70–160 km, the spec table 160 km max, and the battery panel '75+ km in mild electric mode.' All three are quoted above; plan around the smallest.
- The throttle is listed as 'detachable' in the spec table and 'thumb throttle' in the feature copy — consistent: a thumb unit that can be removed, which matters in states whose rules differ for throttle-equipped bikes.
- CREST and STORM share platform numbers (motor, battery, brakes, 8-speed, frame material, weight). What separates them is character: STORM adds NFC/app connectivity, torque-plus-cadence mode switching and an 8A fast charger; CREST is the simpler, same-price machine.
- Battery removability: not stated by Samebike for CREST or STORM (their folder pages do say "removable"; these pages don't). We report the silence rather than resolve it, and will confirm with Samebike on request.
What we counted
We pulled Samebike US's entire live catalog on 2026-08-23 and counted what was actually buyable: 29 of 32 bike variants across 10 models. The three unbuyable variants are all one model's colorways (M20: Black, LightSteelBlue, DarkGreen); every other bike was buyable in every published colorway on the pull date. This listing mirrors that feed — we only sell configurations Samebike can actually supply, and we re-sync price and availability against their store rather than guessing.
Redtail original analysis, counted from Samebike US's public storefront feed on 2026-08-23 (one shipping-surcharge SKU excluded). Availability moves; email support@redtailebikes.com for a combination not shown here.

Frequently asked questions
CREST or STORM — they're the same price?
Same $1,299, same 960Wh battery, same 1,800W peak, same 8-speed and hydraulic brakes. The STORM adds NFC unlocking, app connectivity, a torque/cadence dual mode and an 8A fast charger; the CREST keeps things simpler with its torque sensor and standard charger. Buy the STORM for the tech, the CREST if you'd rather have nothing extra to update, pair or lose.
What does a torque sensor actually change?
It changes the first five seconds of every pedal stroke. Cadence systems detect that you're pedaling and apply a fixed shove; a torque sensor measures how hard you're pressing and scales assist continuously, so the bike accelerates with you instead of past you. On a 99 lb fat bike it also means smoother starts on loose ground, where a cadence surge can spin the tire.
Is 99 lb going to be a problem?
It's the heaviest non-M20 bike Samebike sells, and we'd rather you know now: car transport needs a hitch rack rated for heavy e-bikes, apartment life needs an elevator or ground-floor storage, and lifting it alone is a two-hand, good-form event. Riding, the weight mostly disappears — mass sits low and the motor carries it.
Does the battery come out to charge?
Samebike's page calls it a 960Wh seat-integrated battery and — unlike its folding models' pages — never describes it as removable, so we won't claim it is. Plan on bringing the charger to the bike: garage, hallway socket, or workplace bike room, with the 4–6 hour charge fitting overnight. If a removable pack is a dealbreaker for you, email support@redtailebikes.com and we'll confirm the answer with Samebike before you order.
How far will it go on real rides?
Samebike's own numbers span honest and headline: 75+ km (47 mi) in 'mild electric mode' up to 160 km (99 mi) at the lowest assist level under test conditions. Between hills, weight and throttle habits, a rider mixing assist levels should plan around the 47-mile figure — anything more is bonus, and at 960Wh the bonus is often real.
Who handles warranty and what's covered?
Samebike publishes 3 years on the frame and 1 year on the battery (prorated), motor and other components; free bundled accessories are excluded. Redtail runs every claim for bikes bought here — email support@redtailebikes.com with your order number and photos. Because the battery is integrated, battery-warranty work routes through us as a service claim rather than a pack swap, which is exactly why you want a retailer in the loop.
