The maker's safety record, before you buy

The Q50 2000W 48V 25Ah Fat Tire Electric Bike is named in no regulator's notice as of September 11, 2026. It was built by the company that is. Everything below is quoted from the regulators and the courts, and it is on this page because a buyer choosing this bike deserves to know who made it and how that company answered a federal safety agency.

The March 19, 2026 warning covers the "Ridstar Q20 and Q20 Pro e-bikes": "The e-bikes' batteries and wires can ignite, posing a fire hazard to consumers." The Commission "is aware of 11 reports of fire, including one burn injury, five reports of smoke inhalation, and two reports of property damage totaling over $40,000." Its instruction: "remove the battery from the e-bike immediately and dispose of the battery following local hazardous waste disposal procedures. Do not sell or give away these hazardous batteries."

The June 25, 2026 warning covers the "Ridstar Q20 and Q20 Lite e-bikes": "The front wheel can detach without warning, posing a crash hazard to consumers." The Commission "is aware of 32 reports of the front wheel detaching, including 31 reports of injuries such as concussions, broken bones, cuts, scrapes, and bruises." Its instruction: "stop using the e-bikes immediately and dispose of them. Do not sell or give away these hazardous e-bikes."

Neither notice is a recall, and there is no repair, refund or replacement program. The March notice states that "the manufacturer, Huizhou Xingqishi Sporting Goods Co., Ltd., of China, has refused to agree to an acceptable recall"; the June notice states that it "has been unresponsive to CPSC's requests for information about these products or a recall."

Before either US notice, the UK Office for Product Safety and Standards published Product Safety Report 2506-0011 on 19 June 2025 for the "Ridstar E-Bikes Q20-Plus, Q20-Mini, E26 Pro and Chargers", risk level "Serious": "the charger has poor quality soldering, and the transformer does not meet the minimum requirements for creepage and clearance distances." Its corrective measure: "The import has been rejected at the border."

Two product-liability suits over a detached Ridstar front wheel were filed in 2026 and are undecided: Cunanan v. Amazon.com Services LLC (D. Or., filed April 7, 2026) alleges a Ridstar Q20 caused "numerous facial fractures"; L.E. v. Walmart Inc. (Palm Beach County, filed July 30, 2026, removed to S.D. Fla.) alleges a Walmart-bought Ridstar's front wheel "unexpectedly detached during normal operation" and injured a minor. Both are allegations, not findings.

The same company also sells the YVY brand. The full record, the Trustpilot scores, the warranty terms and every model's status are in our Ridstar brand profile, verified September 11, 2026.

Why this bike

Ridstar Q50 2000W 48V 25Ah Fat Tire Electric Bike — 1,200 watt-hours — a quarter more fuel than the 960Wh bikes
The pack

1,200 watt-hours — a quarter more fuel than the 960Wh bikes

Range on an e-bike is a fuel-tank question, and this is the biggest tank Ridstar puts in one battery: 48 volts times 25 amp-hours, both published. Against the 960Wh bikes in the range that is a quarter more energy for less money, and against the 749Wh ones it is over half again. If you finish rides wondering how much you had left, this is the bike that stops you asking.

Ridstar Q50 2000W 48V 25Ah Fat Tire Electric Bike — Hydraulic dual brakes, on the heaviest-battery bike here
Brakes

Hydraulic dual brakes, on the heaviest-battery bike here

Hydraulics need less hand pressure for the same bite and they hold it when the levers are wet, which is what a bike carrying this much battery needs on a long descent. Half the range publishes plain mechanical discs instead — the DC26, H26 Pro, MN26, H20 and MN20 among them. This one does not.

Ridstar Q50 2000W 48V 25Ah Fat Tire Electric Bike — 330 lb rated, suspended at both ends, seven speeds
Load and comfort

330 lb rated, suspended at both ends, seven speeds

Ridstar publishes a 330 lb maximum for rider and cargo together, so a big rider with a loaded rack is inside the rating rather than guessing at it. Suspension front and rear keeps the 20x4.0 tires tracking over broken ground, and the seven-speed drivetrain leaves you something to pedal with when the pack runs low on a long day.

Ridstar Q50 2000W 48V 25Ah Fat Tire Electric Bike — Four to six hours, published
Charge time

Four to six hours, published

A stated charge window matters more on a big pack than a small one, because a bike you cannot turn round overnight is a bike you ride less. Ridstar publishes four to six hours for the Q50 — plug it in after dinner and it is ready before work.

A US company answers

Support, warranty handling and returns are all run from here, in your timezone, under US consumer law. One storefront, one set of terms, one company that has to stand behind the sale.

That last one is worth more on this brand than on most. Search “Ridstar” and four storefronts come back, each presenting itself as the official one, at prices that differ by hundreds of dollars for the same machine — and they do not share return terms. Ridstar.net publishes a statement on its own site that reads, in full: “Except ridstar.net, other similar websites are our dealers. We hope that all customers can find the right merchants to make purchases, so that they can get the best, most complete and most timely after-sales service.” Buying the Q50 here removes that question entirely: the terms below are ours, they are the ones that govern your order, and the specifications on this page come from one named listing on ridstar.net/products/ridstar®-q50-2000w-fat-tire-electric-bike, retrieved 2026-08-26 with the U.S. market forced.

The full working on which Ridstar domain is which — registration dates, contact addresses, the dealer statement and what stays unresolved — is in our Ridstar brand profile. Source: Ridstar Official Statement, retrieved 2026-08-26. Ridstar's own return policy charges 15% processing fee plus $200 return shipping per e-bike on a cancellation after despatch, and ridstar.com, the other storefront, publishes a different set: a 14-day window and a 25% restocking fee. Two storefronts, two return policies, same brand. Those terms govern an order placed with Ridstar. Yours is placed with us.

Is the Q50 the right one for you?

Buy it if

  • Range decides it for you, and you want the largest single battery Ridstar builds — 1,200 watt-hours
  • You want hydraulic brakes and suspension at both ends without stepping up to a dual-motor price
  • You carry weight: a 330 lb rating covers a big rider plus a loaded rack, and Ridstar publishes it
  • You want 1,200 watt-hours for less than $1,000

Or one of these instead

  • Want two driven wheels for loose ground rather than maximum range? The Q20 Pro runs motors at both ends on a 52-volt pack, at $1,574.35.
  • Prefer a smaller, lighter pack and a single settled motor figure? The Q20 1500W publishes 1500W on 48V 20Ah, at $1,045.35.
  • Riding short distances and want the lowest outlay on a Q30 frame? The Q30 Lite is $1,033.85 on a 48V 15.6Ah pack.

Warranty, filed by us

A one-year limited warranty from Ridstar Bikes, running from the original owner's receipt or purchase date, whichever is later, as verified by Ridstar. Redtail files and tracks the claim for you; you do not deal with the factory.

Change-of-mind returns run on unopened, factory-sealed items requested within 72 hours of delivery, at a 15% restocking fee plus return shipping — against Ridstar's own return policy, which charges 15% processing fee plus $200 return shipping per e-bike direct, and ridstar.com, the other storefront, publishes a different set: a 14-day window and a 25% restocking fee. Two storefronts, two return policies, same brand. Cancellations carry a 3% transaction fee because card processing is non-recoverable. Full terms: Redtail Shipping Policy · Redtail Refund & Return Policy. Alaska, Hawaii, U.S. territories, P.O. boxes, and remote areas may incur extra charges or be excluded — contact us before ordering.

What the warranty covers

What Coverage
Hardware and firmware defects 1 year from the warranty begin date
Inbound and outbound shipping on a valid claim Ridstar's cost, within the warranty period
Return shipping where no fault is found the buyer's cost
Out-of-warranty repairs parts at material cost; no labour charge where Ridstar sold the bike directly

What it covers

This Limited Warranty covers any defects in hardware or firmware under regular use during the Warranty Period.

What you must do

  • Keep the purchase proof — Ridstar states a claim without an invoice or receipt is not covered
  • Register the claim through the seller you bought from; Redtail files it for you
  • Keep the original packaging for a while after delivery — Ridstar asks for this on its own product listings

Not covered

  • Anything not resulting from a hardware or firmware defect
  • Claims made after the warranty period, which Ridstar handles at material cost instead
  • Claims with no associated purchase proof

A one-year limited warranty issued by Ridstar Bikes, beginning from the original owner's receipt or purchase date, whichever is later, as verified by Ridstar, as published on its warranty page and retrieved 2026-08-26. One caveat worth knowing: Ridstar's own product listings print a bullet headed "ONE-YEAR WARRANTY" that then states a warranty on the motor, battery and charger — on some models one year, on others two — while its warranty page states one year for the whole bike. Every page states the figure from that model's own listing and says the page disagrees.

Specifications as published by Ridstar at ridstar.net/products/ridstar®-q50-2000w-fat-tire-electric-bike, archived 2026-08-26 — read out of the copy on that page — Ridstar publishes no specification table for this model, so every figure above traces to a sentence in its own description, and the sentence behind each one is on file. Watt-hour totals are our arithmetic from Ridstar's own volts and amp-hours and are marked as such. These are the manufacturer's ratings, not our test results.

Where Ridstar's own material prints more than one figure, the row above carries the value this page uses and the alternate is recorded here: Ridstar also prints 1500W for this bike in a separate line; Ridstar also prints 65 miles and 80 miles for the range; the table carries the lowest published figure; Ridstar also prints “full suspension” and “front suspension fork” for this model.

How to read this spec sheet

Manufacturer pages carry marketing, and marketing sometimes disagrees with the marketing an inch below it. Every place Ridstar's own material disagrees with itself for this model, every figure it leaves out, and which value this page uses:

  • Ridstar's own copy prints more than one wattage for this bike: 1500W, 2000W Both printed. We state every figure Ridstar publishes and label which sentence each came from, rather than choosing one.
  • Ridstar's page prints more than one motor figure for this bike. Both are in the table above rather than one of them being chosen for you.
  • Ridstar's page prints more than one range figure for this bike. Both are in the table above rather than one of them being chosen for you.
  • Ridstar's page prints more than one suspension figure for this bike. Both are in the table above rather than one of them being chosen for you.
  • Ridstar publishes no figure for bike weight, rider height on this model. Those rows read “not published” rather than being filled in from a sibling model that happens to share the frame.
  • The 1200 Wh figure is ours, not Ridstar's: it is the published 48 volts multiplied by the published 25.0 amp-hours. It is the number to compare bikes on, because a bigger amp-hour count at a lower voltage is not more energy.
  • Ridstar publishes this bike on its other storefront, ridstar.com, at $1,205.95 for the US variant, read from that storefront's own catalog on 29 August 2026. Prices, and sometimes specifications, differ between the two sites; every figure on this page comes from ridstar.net.

What we counted

We pulled Ridstar's entire live catalog on 2026-08-26 — all 93 published listings — and worked out what is actually on the shelf: 26 bike listings, 11 scooters and 41 accessories. Among the bikes we found 4 pairs of listings that are the same machine listed twice, counted only where the descriptions are byte-identical or the two listings share most of the same image files. The widest gap is the Q30 Pro 4000W, which appears at $899.00 and $1269.00 on the same storefront. That is why every specification on this page is read from one named listing rather than from “the manufacturer”.

Redtail original analysis, counted from Ridstar's public storefront feed and collection endpoints on 2026-08-26; every price cross-checked against a second, independently fetched endpoint. Method: Two listings are called the same bike only where their description text is byte-identical after markup is stripped, or they share 60% or more of the same image FILES. Shared boilerplate paragraphs alone were not enough — an earlier pass that keyed on the first 400 characters produced four false pairs and was discarded.

Where to ride it, and what to check first

The Q50 is a fat-tire machine built for long days on trails, tracks and private land, and the size of its pack is what makes those days possible.

Ridstar publishes the motor as 2000W and the top speed as 28 mph. Federal law defines the low-speed electric bicycle category this way:

the term “low-speed electric bicycle” means a two- or three-wheeled vehicle with fully operable pedals and an electric motor of less than 750 watts (1 h.p.), whose maximum speed on a paved level surface, when powered solely by such a motor while ridden by an operator who weighs 170 pounds, is less than 20 mph.

15 U.S.C. § 2085(b) (Pub. L. 107–319, § 1, Dec. 4, 2002, 116 Stat. 2776), carried into 16 C.F.R. § 1512.2(a)(2). Retrieved 2026-08-26 from the U.S. Government Publishing Office and confirmed word for word against Cornell's Legal Information Institute.

Set those two published numbers against that threshold and this bike sits outside the federal low-speed electric bicycle definition. What that means where you live is decided by your state: some apply moped, motor-driven cycle or off-highway vehicle rules above the federal line, and those can reach registration, insurance, licensing, helmets and which paths and trails are open to you. Some states set their own wattage ceiling instead. Check yours before you ride on any public road, bike path or trail.

Start here: our state-by-state e-bike law guide. Current as of 2026-08-26; state law changes, so re-check yours before relying on it.

Straight answers on the Q50

Four things buyers ask before ordering this one, and what each actually means for the ride you are planning.

Ridstar prints 2000W in one line and 1500W in another.

Both figures appear in Ridstar's own copy for the Q50, with no continuous-versus-peak split published to explain the gap and no per-motor rating stated. The table here carries 2000W, the nameplate figure the bike is sold under.

The parts of this bike that decide how it rides are not in dispute: 1,200 watt-hours, hydraulic brakes, suspension at both ends, 330 lb rated. Where the wattage does bite is paperwork, because a handful of states write their rules around motor rating — our state-by-state e-bike law guide carries the table. If you want one number and nothing to reconcile, the Q20 1500W publishes 1500W and only 1500W, at $1,045.35.

There are three different range claims on Ridstar's page.

Ridstar publishes 50, 65 and 80 miles for the Q50, with no rider weight, assist level or terrain attached to any of them. The table on this page carries 50 miles, the lowest of the three.

Ignore all three and buy the tank: 1,200 watt-hours is a measured quantity, and it is a quarter more than the 960Wh bikes and over half again more than the 749Wh ones. Whatever miles-per-watt-hour you actually get on your terrain, this bike gives you 1,200 watt-hours to spend.

Has anyone actually tested one?

No independent test of the Q50 has been published that we could find, and Redtail publishes no rating or review score for it because we hold no first-party test of our own.

What you get instead is every figure with the sentence it came from and the date it was read, so nothing on this page rests on somebody's impression. And you are not carrying the risk of that alone: the bike ships free, arrives under a US warranty, and if a covered part fails we file the claim rather than handing you a factory address.

Ridstar publishes no bike weight and no rider height.

Neither figure appears anywhere in Ridstar's material for the Q50, so both rows read “not published” rather than borrowing a number from a bike that shares the frame.

The dimensions that are published cover most of what people ask: 20-inch wheels on 4-inch tires, a 330 lb rider-plus-cargo rating, seven speeds. If the number you need is the missing one — clearance under a garage door, a hitch rack limit — send us the measurement and you will have an answer before you order.

Frequently asked questions

How fast does the Ridstar Q50 go?

Ridstar publishes 28 mph for the Q50 — a manufacturer claim on throttle, with no test weight, gradient or surface stated behind it. That figure sits above the 20 mph federal low-speed line, so read the section on where to ride it before you plan a commute on it.

How far does the Ridstar Q50 go on one charge?

Ridstar's page gives three figures — 50, 65 and 80 miles — with no conditions attached, and this page carries the lowest. The number worth reasoning from is the 1,200 watt-hours in the pack: 48 volts times 25 amp-hours, both published, and the largest single battery in the Ridstar range.

Is the Ridstar Q50 street legal?

Your state decides. Federal law defines a low-speed electric bicycle as having a motor under 750 watts and a motor-only top speed under 20 mph, and Ridstar publishes this bike at 2000W and 28 mph, outside that definition. Above the federal threshold many states apply moped or motor-driven cycle rules. The statute is quoted in full above and our state-by-state guide has the detail for yours.

Is there a review of the Ridstar Q50?

Not one we could find. Every result a live search returned for a Q50 review on 26 August 2026 turned out to be a review of a different Ridstar. This page is a sourced specification rather than a test report, and it does not borrow another bike's results.

How heavy is the Ridstar Q50?

Ridstar publishes a 330 lb maximum load — rider and cargo together — but no weight for the bike itself and no recommended rider height. Both rows read “not published” above for that reason. Send us your rack or door measurement before ordering and we will check it.

Does the Ridstar Q50 have hydraulic brakes?

Yes — hydraulic dual brakes, published by Ridstar, together with suspension front and rear. Several cheaper bikes in the range and several dearer ones publish plain mechanical discs.

How much does a Ridstar Q50 cost?

$918.85, with free shipping in the lower 48 and Shop Pay instalments at checkout. Ridstar's own ridstar.com storefront published the same 25Ah Q50 at $1,205.95 for the US on 29 August 2026.

How we verified this page. Every specification above was read from an archived copy of Ridstar's own product page (ridstar.net/products/ridstar®-q50-2000w-fat-tire-electric-bike), retrieved 2026-08-26 with the U.S. market forced and the currency confirmed as USD, with the price cross-checked the same day against a second, independently fetched endpoint on that site. Figures are the manufacturer's ratings, not our test results; where Ridstar's material disagrees with itself, or leaves a specification out, the “How to read this spec sheet” section names it and says which value this page uses. The federal definition is quoted from the statute and was retrieved from two independent publishers. We publish no rating or review score for this bike because we hold no first-party reviews of it. Live purchasability and price on this page were read from our own storefront on 2026-10-05. Corrections: support@redtailebikes.com.
