Two motors, one at each wheel

A 750 W hub at the front and another at the rear, which Eunorau rates at 1,500 W combined and 85 N·m, run by a single 48 V 25 A dual-drive controller. Both wheels pull, so the front keeps hunting for grip on loose gravel and wet leaf litter instead of washing out while the rear spins.

Air shock

A four-bar frame with air at the back

An AOS01 air shock, 165 mm eye-to-eye, on a 6061 aluminum four-bar linkage, with an RST GUIDE fork and 75 mm of travel up front. Air means you set the rear to your own weight rather than living with a coil the factory chose, and the fork has a mechanical lockout for the smooth stretch home.

Torque sensor

It answers your legs, not a magnet

A bottom-bracket torque sensor reads how hard you are actually pushing and scales the motors to match, which is the difference between an e-bike that surges a beat after you start pedalling and one that simply feels strong. The MINI TOUCH display carries Bluetooth, and there is an LED headlight with a horn built in.

The biggest rotors Eunorau fits, at both ends

Hydraulic discs front and rear on 203 mm rotors — the same size at both wheels, not a big front and a small rear — with motor cut-off sensors in the levers that kill assist the instant you brake. Two motors and 89.3 lb of bike is exactly the case that wants 203s.

Who the DEFENDER-S 2.0 is for

Get the DEFENDER-S 2.0 if your riding leaves pavement often enough that grip at the front wheel matters — fire road, sand, snow, wet field edges — and you want suspension at both ends rather than a fork and a hope.

Two things to check before you order

1. Your height, against the frame. Eunorau publishes a recommended rider height of 160–193 cm (5'3"–6'4") for the 17" frame and leaves the 19" cell blank, giving seat-height ranges instead: 585–735 mm (23–28.9 in) on the 17", 635–785 mm (25–30.9 in) on the 19". Measure your inseam against those two numbers and the 17" covers most riders in the range.
2. What you are hauling. 300 lb is rider plus cargo. If you need more headroom, the FAT-AWD 2.0 publishes 375 lb and is also all-wheel drive.

Owning the DEFENDER-S 2.0 in your state

Federal law defines a low-speed electric bicycle at 15 U.S.C. § 2085(b): a two- or three-wheeled vehicle with fully operable pedals and "an electric motor of less than 750 watts (1 h.p.)", whose top speed under motor power alone on a paved level surface, with a 170-pound rider, is less than 20 mph.

Eunorau publishes two figures for this bike. Its spec grid lists the class as "Class 2, speed limited, unlockable" with a 20 mph power-on setting and a manufacturer-defined 28 mph setting above it. Its specification also lists a combined rated motor output of 1,500 W. The speed setting meets the 20 mph half of the federal definition; 1,500 W is above the 750 W half, so this is a machine to buy for land where that is not the question — trail, private property, ranch and hunting ground — rather than one to assume onto a bike path.

States set their own rules on top of the federal definition, and most run a three-class system that decides where you can ride, whether a helmet is required and whether there is a minimum age. Frequently asked questions

Is the Eunorau DEFENDER-S 2.0 street legal?

It depends on your state, and on which number your state counts. Federal law (15 U.S.C. § 2085(b)) caps a low-speed electric bicycle at under 750 W; Eunorau rates this bike at 1,500 W combined while publishing a speed-limited 20 mph Class 2 mode. States that write their limit on motor output will treat it as above the line. Our state guide has each one. For a bike inside the federal definition, the Defender is 500 W at $1,599.

Are dual-motor e-bikes worth it?

For grip, yes — and that is the reason to buy one, not top speed. A driven front wheel pulls the bike straight on sand, snow and loose gravel instead of pushing wide while the rear digs. On dry pavement a single motor does the same job for less weight and more range, which is why the 1,500 W is a traction argument here rather than a speed one. What is a torque sensor, and does this bike have one?

It has a bottom-bracket torque sensor. A cadence sensor only knows whether the cranks are turning, so assist arrives in a lump a moment after you start; a torque sensor measures how hard you are pressing and scales both motors to match, which feels like strong legs rather than a switch.

How far does the DEFENDER-S 2.0 go on a charge?

Eunorau rates it at up to 40 miles from the 48 V 15 Ah pack — 13S3P of 21700 cells, 5,000 mAh each. Two motors draw more than one, so treat 40 as the rated ceiling and expect less into a headwind, up hills, on soft sand or at rider weights near the 300 lb limit. If range is the priority, the FAT-AWD 2.0 is rated to 80 miles on two batteries.

Which frame size should I order?

Eunorau publishes a recommended rider height of 160–193 cm (5'3"–6'4") for the 17" frame and leaves the cell blank for the 19". It publishes seat height for both: 585–735 mm (23–28.9 in) on the 17" and 635–785 mm (25–30.9 in) on the 19". Riders at the tall end of the range who want more seatpost and a longer 655 mm top tube take the 19"; everyone else is covered by the 17". Not sure? Ask us before you order.

Is the battery UL certified?

Eunorau publishes "UL certified: Yes" for the DEFENDER-S 2.0 in the specification grid on its own product page. That matters where a building, an insurer or a city rule asks for it before a pack is charged indoors.

What brakes and drivetrain does it use?

Hydraulic disc brakes front and rear on 203 mm rotors at both ends, with motor cut-off sensors in the levers. The drivetrain is Shimano CUES 1×9 — an SL-U4000-9R RAPIDFIRE PLUS shifter, an RD-U3020-SGS rear derailleur and an 11–36T CS-LG300-9 cassette on a 42T chainring.

What happens after you order

Orders are prepared and dispatched within 1–3 business days of confirmation, and most e-bikes arrive within 5–10 business days after dispatch, depending on location. It arrives part-assembled in a freight box: the front wheel, handlebars, pedals and saddle are the usual steps, and the tools come with it. Inspect it at delivery — damage, defects or an incorrect item reported with photos within 48 hours are ours to fix, and we file the carrier claim.
