Why the SpytanX
Generation two, measured against generation one
Addmotor publishes the comparison itself: the X is 10.1 inches shorter (67.3 vs 77.4), 21 lb lighter (105 vs 126), suspended where the original is rigid, and folds 9.5 inches shorter. Slick 4.0-inch rubber replaces the mixed tread. Same battery, same motor, same fit window — the layout stayed; everything around it tightened.
Suspension where the tadpole needed it
On a two-front-wheel machine, the front axle carries the steering, the braking and the bumps. The X adds front suspension — the original Spytan's table lists none — which turns pavement seams from double taps into single soft ones. With the backrest saddle and butterfly bar, the comfort package is complete.
The butterfly bar is the sleeper feature
Multiple hand positions on one handlebar — top for cruising, forward for headwinds, wide for control — with height adjustment from 38.1 to 43.7 in. Long-ride hand numbness is a grip-position problem, and the butterfly shape is the classic touring solution, oddly rare on trikes until now.
Yes, really: golf
Addmotor's own headline is 'Built For Golfer' — the compact footprint, slick tires and low speed cap map to cart paths, and the rear deck takes a bag. Read it broadly: the X is optimized for smooth-surface, short-radius, park-and-repeat environments — golf courses, campgrounds, big residential complexes, boardwalk towns.

How to read this spec sheet
Where Addmotor's own page prints more than one figure for the same spec, the table above carries the one we could verify twice, and this list names every such case and the figure we chose:
- Price: $2,599 is Addmotor's live price; no machine-readable pre-sale price is published, so no compare-at is listed.
- The generational comparison figures (length, weight, fold, tires vs the original Spytan) come from Addmotor's own side-by-side table on the X's page.
- Sensor: 'Speed Cadence Sensor' is their table's wording — cadence-type assist, quoted as printed.
- The X's stat strip carries no UL line while its technical table says 'Samsung UL-certified Battery'; the table is the deeper source and both are noted.
- No differential row appears — correct for a single-drive-wheel tadpole; none is needed.

Frequently asked questions
Spytan or SpytanX?
The X for almost everyone the layout fits: it's shorter, 21 lb lighter, suspended, folds smaller, and its butterfly bar adjusts where the original's doesn't — for $400 more. The original Spytan keeps two distinct advantages: the removable front pet rack and the mixed-tread tires. Pet-first buyers take the Spytan; everyone else's money is better in the X.
Why only 15 mph?
Published and deliberate. The X's rider base — smaller riders, golf-course and campground environments, a narrow-track front end — is better served by a lower cap, and Addmotor prints 15 without apology. If 20 mph matters to you, every delta trike in the range delivers it; if it doesn't, the cap buys stability margin on a compact machine.
What makes it 'built for golfers'?
Addmotor's positioning, and the specs cooperate: 67.3 inches of length turns inside cart-path corners, slick 4-inch rubber rolls quiet on smooth surfaces, 15 mph matches course rules, the deck takes a bag, and the fold fits a garage corner between rounds. Nothing stops it being a campground or boardwalk machine instead — the mission is 'smooth loops, repeated', whatever your loop is.
How does the front suspension change the ride?
On a tadpole, the front wheels do everything — steer, brake, and hit every seam first. Suspending them (the X's table lists front suspension; the original's lists none) takes the edge off exactly the impacts this layout otherwise transmits straight to the bars. Combined with the fat slicks at low pressure, the X rides notably softer than its geometry suggests.
Is the missing review file a warning sign?
It's the honest cost of buying the newest model: zero reviews on Addmotor's store at our 2026-08-24 pull, against 159–161 on the proven delta trikes. The shared components — 750W hub, 20Ah Samsung pack, 25A controller — carry the family's record; the X-specific hardware (suspension, butterfly bar, frame) is the part without a public history yet.
