Federal safety warning, read before anything else on this page

This model is sold as the "Q20 Luxe". The US Consumer Product Safety Commission has told consumers to stop using the "Ridstar Q20", "Q20 Pro" and "Q20 Lite" immediately, and no published source says whether the "Q20 Luxe" is the same chassis under a trim name. Ridstar lists it as a separate SKU; the manufacturer has stopped answering the Commission; YVY, the same company, lists a "Q20 1200W" and an "Upgraded Q20 1500W" that match neither name. Treat it as unresolved, not as cleared. The two notices, in full:

The March 19, 2026 warning covers the "Ridstar Q20 and Q20 Pro e-bikes": "The e-bikes' batteries and wires can ignite, posing a fire hazard to consumers." The Commission "is aware of 11 reports of fire, including one burn injury, five reports of smoke inhalation, and two reports of property damage totaling over $40,000." Its instruction: "remove the battery from the e-bike immediately and dispose of the battery following local hazardous waste disposal procedures. Do not sell or give away these hazardous batteries."

The June 25, 2026 warning covers the "Ridstar Q20 and Q20 Lite e-bikes": "The front wheel can detach without warning, posing a crash hazard to consumers." The Commission "is aware of 32 reports of the front wheel detaching, including 31 reports of injuries such as concussions, broken bones, cuts, scrapes, and bruises." Its instruction: "stop using the e-bikes immediately and dispose of them. Do not sell or give away these hazardous e-bikes."

Neither notice is a recall, and there is no repair, refund or replacement program. The March notice states that "the manufacturer, Huizhou Xingqishi Sporting Goods Co., Ltd., of China, has refused to agree to an acceptable recall"; the June notice states that it "has been unresponsive to CPSC's requests for information about these products or a recall."

Before either US notice, the UK Office for Product Safety and Standards published Product Safety Report 2506-0011 on 19 June 2025 for the "Ridstar E-Bikes Q20-Plus, Q20-Mini, E26 Pro and Chargers", risk level "Serious": "the charger has poor quality soldering, and the transformer does not meet the minimum requirements for creepage and clearance distances." Its corrective measure: "The import has been rejected at the border."

Two product-liability suits over a detached Ridstar front wheel were filed in 2026 and are undecided: Cunanan v. Amazon.com Services LLC (D. Or., filed April 7, 2026) alleges a Ridstar Q20 caused "numerous facial fractures"; L.E. v. Walmart Inc. (Palm Beach County, filed July 30, 2026, removed to S.D. Fla.) alleges a Walmart-bought Ridstar's front wheel "unexpectedly detached during normal operation" and injured a minor. Both are allegations, not findings.

If you already own one: the Commission's instruction is to stop riding it and dispose of it through your local household hazardous-waste program, not to sell it or give it away. The full record, the lineup, and the models no regulator has named are in our Ridstar brand profile, verified September 11, 2026.

Ridstar Q20 Luxe 1500W 48V 20Ah Fat Tire Electric Bike

A 1500W motor, a 20-amp-hour pack and hydraulic discs. What Ridstar does not publish about this one is the story.

Hydraulic brakes and 960 watt-hours, on the shortest spec sheet in the Q20 family.

Quick answer

The Q20 Luxe is the mid Q20 at $815.35: 1500W, a 48V 20Ah pack holding 960 watt-hours, hydraulic disc brakes and 20x4 tires, claimed at 28 mph. It is out of stock with us today; the Q20 1500W runs the same motor and pack and ships at $1,045.35.

Out of stock right now. The Q20 1500W is the same motor on the same 960 watt-hour pack, in stock today, and it publishes the four figures this listing leaves blank: suspension, gear count, load rating and charge window. See the Q20 1500W.

Why this bike

Ridstar Q20 Luxe 1500W 48V 20Ah Fat Tire Electric Bike — 960 watt-hours, the range's workhorse capacity
Pack

960 watt-hours, the range's workhorse capacity

Ridstar's 48 volts times its 20 amp-hours. This is the pack size most of the range is built around, and behind a 1500W motor rather than a 2000W one it goes further per charge than the same energy under a bigger draw.

Ridstar Q20 Luxe 1500W 48V 20Ah Fat Tire Electric Bike — Hydraulic discs, published
Brakes

Hydraulic discs, published

Hydraulics pull harder for less hand pressure and stay consistent when the levers are wet. Ridstar states them for this model, which several bikes at similar money in the range do not get.

Ridstar Q20 Luxe 1500W 48V 20Ah Fat Tire Electric Bike — 20-inch fat tires on the Q20 frame
Format

20-inch fat tires on the Q20 frame

Four inches of rubber on a 20-inch wheel floats over sand and broken ground and lets you run low pressure for grip. The short frame parks and stores easily.

Ridstar Q20 Luxe 1500W 48V 20Ah Fat Tire Electric Bike — Six to eight hours, stated
Charging

Six to eight hours, stated

Longer than most of the range, and published rather than left blank, so you can plan the turnaround. On a bike charged overnight it makes no practical difference.

A US company answers

Support, warranty handling and returns are all run from here, in your timezone, under US consumer law. One storefront, one set of terms, one company that has to stand behind the sale.

That last one is worth more on this brand than on most. Search “Ridstar” and four storefronts come back, each presenting itself as the official one, at prices that differ by hundreds of dollars for the same machine — and they do not share return terms. Ridstar.net publishes a statement on its own site that reads, in full: “Except ridstar.net, other similar websites are our dealers. We hope that all customers can find the right merchants to make purchases, so that they can get the best, most complete and most timely after-sales service.” Buying the Q20 Luxe here removes that question entirely: the terms below are ours, they are the ones that govern your order, and the specifications on this page come from one named listing on ridstar.net/products/ridstar-q20-1500w-48v-20ah-battery-20fat-tire-mountain-electric-bike-for-adult, retrieved 2026-08-26 with the U.S. market forced.

The full working on which Ridstar domain is which — registration dates, contact addresses, the dealer statement and what stays unresolved — is in our Ridstar brand profile. Source: Ridstar Official Statement, retrieved 2026-08-26. Ridstar's own return policy charges 15% processing fee plus $200 return shipping per e-bike on a cancellation after despatch, and ridstar.com, the other storefront, publishes a different set: a 14-day window and a 25% restocking fee. Two storefronts, two return policies, same brand. Those terms govern an order placed with Ridstar. Yours is placed with us.

Is the Q20 Luxe the right one for you?

Buy it if

  • You want hydraulic brakes at the middle of the Q20 range
  • You want the 960 watt-hour pack behind a 1500W motor rather than a 2000W one
  • You want the 20-inch fat format for storage and low-speed grip
  • You want a bike whose motor rating is printed once and not contradicted

Or one of these instead

  • Want it today, with the blanks filled in? The Q20 1500W shares the motor and pack, at $1,045.35.
  • Want more battery? The Q50 holds 1,200 watt-hours at $918.85.
  • Want the entry price on this platform? The Q20 Lite is $1,033.85 on a 720Wh pack.

Change-of-mind returns run on unopened, factory-sealed items requested within 72 hours of delivery, at a 15% restocking fee plus return shipping — against Ridstar's own return policy, which charges 15% processing fee plus $200 return shipping per e-bike direct, and ridstar.com, the other storefront, publishes a different set: a 14-day window and a 25% restocking fee. Two storefronts, two return policies, same brand. Cancellations carry a 3% transaction fee because card processing is non-recoverable. Full terms: Redtail Shipping Policy · Redtail Refund & Return Policy. Alaska, Hawaii, U.S. territories, P.O. boxes, and remote areas may incur extra charges or be excluded — contact us before ordering.

What the warranty covers

What Coverage
Hardware and firmware defects 1 year from the warranty begin date
Inbound and outbound shipping on a valid claim Ridstar's cost, within the warranty period
Return shipping where no fault is found the buyer's cost
Out-of-warranty repairs parts at material cost; no labour charge where Ridstar sold the bike directly

What it covers

This Limited Warranty covers any defects in hardware or firmware under regular use during the Warranty Period.

What you must do

  • Keep the purchase proof — Ridstar states a claim without an invoice or receipt is not covered
  • Register the claim through the seller you bought from; Redtail files it for you
  • Keep the original packaging for a while after delivery — Ridstar asks for this on its own product listings

Not covered

  • Anything not resulting from a hardware or firmware defect
  • Claims made after the warranty period, which Ridstar handles at material cost instead
  • Claims with no associated purchase proof

A one-year limited warranty issued by Ridstar Bikes, beginning from the original owner's receipt or purchase date, whichever is later, as verified by Ridstar, as published on its warranty page and retrieved 2026-08-26. One caveat worth knowing: Ridstar's own product listings print a bullet headed "ONE-YEAR WARRANTY" that then states a warranty on the motor, battery and charger — on some models one year, on others two — while its warranty page states one year for the whole bike. Every page states the figure from that model's own listing and says the page disagrees.

Specifications as published by Ridstar at ridstar.net/products/ridstar-q20-1500w-48v-20ah-battery-20fat-tire-mountain-electric-bike-for-adult, archived 2026-08-26 — read out of the copy on that page — Ridstar publishes no specification table for this model, so every figure above traces to a sentence in its own description, and the sentence behind each one is on file. Watt-hour totals are our arithmetic from Ridstar's own volts and amp-hours and are marked as such. These are the manufacturer's ratings, not our test results.

Where Ridstar's own material prints more than one figure, the row above carries the value this page uses and the alternate is recorded here: Ridstar prints both “hydraulic disc brakes” and “disc brakes” for this model.

How to read this spec sheet

Manufacturer pages carry marketing, and marketing sometimes disagrees with the marketing an inch below it. Every place Ridstar's own material disagrees with itself for this model, every figure it leaves out, and which value this page uses:

  • Ridstar's page prints more than one brakes figure for this bike. Both are in the table above rather than one of them being chosen for you.
  • Ridstar publishes no figure for maximum load, bike weight, gears, suspension, rider height on this model. Those rows read “not published” rather than being filled in from a sibling model that happens to share the frame.
  • The 960 Wh figure is ours, not Ridstar's: it is the published 48 volts multiplied by the published 20.0 amp-hours. It is the number to compare bikes on, because a bigger amp-hour count at a lower voltage is not more energy.

What we counted

We pulled Ridstar's entire live catalog on 2026-08-26 — all 93 published listings — and worked out what is actually on the shelf: 26 bike listings, 11 scooters and 41 accessories. Among the bikes we found 4 pairs of listings that are the same machine listed twice, counted only where the descriptions are byte-identical or the two listings share most of the same image files. The widest gap is the Q30 Pro 4000W, which appears at $899.00 and $1269.00 on the same storefront. That is why every specification on this page is read from one named listing rather than from “the manufacturer”.

Redtail original analysis, counted from Ridstar's public storefront feed and collection endpoints on 2026-08-26; every price cross-checked against a second, independently fetched endpoint. Method: Two listings are called the same bike only where their description text is byte-identical after markup is stripped, or they share 60% or more of the same image FILES. Shared boilerplate paragraphs alone were not enough — an earlier pass that keyed on the first 400 characters produced four false pairs and was discarded.

Where to ride it, and what to check first

The Q20 Luxe is a 20-inch fat bike for paths, tracks and private land, published at 1500W.

Ridstar publishes the motor as 1500W and the top speed as 28 mph. Federal law defines the low-speed electric bicycle category this way:

the term “low-speed electric bicycle” means a two- or three-wheeled vehicle with fully operable pedals and an electric motor of less than 750 watts (1 h.p.), whose maximum speed on a paved level surface, when powered solely by such a motor while ridden by an operator who weighs 170 pounds, is less than 20 mph.

15 U.S.C. § 2085(b) (Pub. L. 107–319, § 1, Dec. 4, 2002, 116 Stat. 2776), carried into 16 C.F.R. § 1512.2(a)(2). Retrieved 2026-08-26 from the U.S. Government Publishing Office and confirmed word for word against Cornell's Legal Information Institute.

Set those two published numbers against that threshold and this bike sits outside the federal low-speed electric bicycle definition. What that means where you live is decided by your state: some apply moped, motor-driven cycle or off-highway vehicle rules above the federal line, and those can reach registration, insurance, licensing, helmets and which paths and trails are open to you. Some states set their own wattage ceiling instead. Check yours before you ride on any public road, bike path or trail.

Straight answers on the Q20 Luxe

Four things buyers ask before ordering this one, and what each actually means for the ride you are planning.

Five specifications are missing from this listing.

Ridstar publishes no maximum load, bike weight, gear count, suspension setup or rider height for the Q20 Luxe. Those rows read “not published” rather than borrowing figures from a Q20 that shares the frame.

If those are the rows that decide it, buy the bike that states them: the Q20 1500W publishes full suspension, seven speeds and a 330 lb rating on the same motor and the same 960 watt-hours, and it is in stock at $1,045.35. That is a better answer than an estimate.

A six to eight hour charge is the slowest here.

Most of the range publishes four to six hours. Ridstar publishes six to eight for this model.

On a bike that charges overnight the difference is invisible; on one you want twice in a day it is not. If same-day turnaround matters, the Q20 1500W publishes a four to six hour window on the identical pack size.

The range claim carries no conditions.

Ridstar publishes 50 to 75 miles with no rider weight, terrain or assist level stated.

Plan from the 960 watt-hours instead, which is a measured quantity, and treat the spread as the manufacturer acknowledging that terrain and weight move the answer. On a 1500W motor the lower end of that band is a reasonable working figure.

Can I order one now?

Not today; our store is out of it. The page stays up so its specification and sources stay available while it is away.

Ask and we will flag it when it is back. Meanwhile the Q20 1500W is the same 1500W motor on the same 960 watt-hours, publishes more of itself, and ships free today.

Frequently asked questions

How fast does the Ridstar Q20 Luxe go?

Ridstar publishes 28 mph, a manufacturer claim on throttle with no test conditions attached, and it sits above the 20 mph federal low-speed line.

How far will the Q20 Luxe go on one charge?

Ridstar claims 50 to 75 miles, with no rider weight, terrain or assist level stated. Its 48 volts and 20 amp-hours come to 960 watt-hours of stored energy.

Is the Ridstar Q20 Luxe street legal?

Your state decides. Federal law defines a low-speed electric bicycle as having a motor under 750 watts and a motor-only top speed under 20 mph; Ridstar publishes 1500W and 28 mph here, outside that definition. The statute is quoted in full above.

What is the maximum load of the Ridstar Q20 Luxe?

Ridstar publishes none for this model. The Q20 1500W, which shares the motor and pack, publishes 330 lb and is in stock at $1,045.35.

How long does the Q20 Luxe take to charge?

Six to eight hours, published, against four to six on most of the range.

Does the Ridstar Q20 Luxe have hydraulic brakes?

Yes, hydraulic disc brakes, published by Ridstar.

What is the difference between the Q20 Luxe and the Q20 Luxe Lite?

The Luxe runs 1500W on 960 watt-hours; the Luxe Lite runs 1000W on 720. The Luxe publishes hydraulic discs where the Luxe Lite publishes plain ones. Neither is in stock today; the Q20 1500W is the nearest bike we can ship.

Ready to ride?

The Q20 Luxe is out of stock today. The Q20 1500W matches the motor and the pack, fills in the blanks, and ships today at $1,045.35.

How we verified this page. Every specification above was read from an archived copy of Ridstar's own product page (ridstar.net/products/ridstar-q20-1500w-48v-20ah-battery-20fat-tire-mountain-electric-bike-for-adult), retrieved 2026-08-26 with the U.S. market forced and the currency confirmed as USD, with the price cross-checked the same day against a second, independently fetched endpoint on that site. Figures are the manufacturer's ratings, not our test results; where Ridstar's material disagrees with itself, or leaves a specification out, the “How to read this spec sheet” section names it and says which value this page uses. The federal definition is quoted from the statute and was retrieved from two independent publishers. We publish no rating or review score for this bike because we hold no first-party reviews of it. Live purchasability and price on this page were read from our own storefront on 2026-10-05. Corrections: support@redtailebikes.com.
