Smartravel supplies covered parts free; fitting labor is covered when its after-sales team authorizes it, and warranty parts ship within the lower 48. Claims are made within one year of purchase, with photos or video.

What Smartravel’s warranty does not cover:

  • Wear parts: tires, inner tubes, spokes and brake pads
  • Accessories, including free gifts (Smartravel's product pages say the warranty service does not include free accessories)
  • Damage from abuse, neglect, misuse, an accident, stunt riding or ramp jumping
  • Damage from water, from improper charging or from a charger Smartravel or its dealers did not supply
  • Third-party parts, and any part that has been modified or tampered with
  • Lost or damaged keys or NFC card
  • Electrical parts repaired or modified by someone Smartravel has not authorized (that voids the warranty)

Owning it in your state

Federal law defines a “low-speed electric bicycle” as a vehicle with a motor under 750 watts and a maximum speed under 20 mph on the motor alone (15 U.S.C. § 2085(b)). The UrbanX's 500W motor is under that wattage; Smartravel states a top speed of up to 22–24 mph without saying how much of it the motor supplies. State law governs where and how you can ride it.

The detail for where you ride is in our state-by-state e-bike law guide.

How to read this spec sheet

Smartravel’s pages give more than one figure for some specs on this model; the list below gives both, and the one the table above uses.

  • Top speed: Smartravel's headline figures give 22 mph, its spec list up to 24 mph, and its FAQ 22–24 mph. The table prints 24 mph with 22 mph beside it.
  • Motor: Smartravel's spec list rates the motor at 500W; its headline figures and product image call 500W the peak.
  • Rider height: about 4'7" to 5'11" in Smartravel's FAQ, 5'5" to 6'5" on its sizing chart. The table prints both.
  • Range: up to 40 miles with pedal assist and about 23 miles on the throttle in Smartravel's FAQ and spec list; its range chart gives 18–23 miles on the throttle, and its feature copy 25–40 and 35+ miles.
  • Charge time: 4–6 hours in Smartravel's FAQ, 4–5 hours in its feature copy and range chart.
  • Brakes: ‘mechanical disc’ in Smartravel's spec list, ‘hydraulic’ in its feature copy. The table prints both.
  • Smartravel's Warranty & Return Policy sets 12 months for every component and the battery. Its product pages also print '1-year all-inclusive' (with batteries and free accessories outside 'the warranty service'), 'a 2-year warranty for each ebike', and, on the Rocket ST201F and DK400, 18 months. We plan to the policy's 12 months; if a longer term matters to you, tell us and we will put the question to Smartravel in writing before you order.

Straight answers before you order

Smartravel gives the UrbanX's top speed as up to 22–24 mph.

It is a 500W commuter built for everyday city speeds, and the table above prints both figures. If you want more speed, the DK400 is rated to 28 mph. See the DK400.

Smartravel lists the brakes as mechanical disc in its spec list and hydraulic in its feature copy.

If brake type decides it, email us before you order and we will confirm it with Smartravel in writing.

Manuals & assembly

Smartravel publishes an owner’s manual and an assembly video for its models on Smartravel's owner's-manual and assembly-video page. Email us and we will send you the current file for your bike directly, along with a plain answer on what is left to put together out of the box — worth asking before you order if that is what decides it.
