Samebike M20 Retro Off-Road Electric Bike

Café-racer lines, a shopping bay where a tank would be, and 1,800 peak watts under the seat. The M20 in Peru brown — the one colorway still in stock.
The Samebike M20 is the retro moto-styled e-bike the M20-III grew out of: one 1200W hub motor (1,800W peak), a removable 48V 18Ah battery (864Wh), full suspension, hydraulic disc brakes and a mid-frame cargo bay, at $999 — matched to Samebike's own price, shipped free in the lower 48. One colorway (Peru) is in stock; Samebike itself has sold out the other three.
- 1,800WPeak motor power
- 864Wh48V 18Ah battery
- 100+ N·mTorque
- 87 miMax claimed range
- $999Matched to Samebike
Who the M20 is for
Buy it if
- Riders who want the moto silhouette without the M20-III's weight class of power or its $500 premium
- Short riders and inseam-limited riders — the 32.5 in saddle height and step-through-ish bench layout suit riders a diamond-frame 26er won't
- Errand runs: the mid-mounted cargo bay swallows groceries where a normal e-bike needs a rack and bungees
- Anyone who wants hydraulic brakes and full suspension at $999 — both are usually the first specs cut at this price
Look elsewhere if
- You want a color choice — only Peru (saddle brown) is buyable today; Samebike has sold out Black, LightSteelBlue and DarkGreen
- You plan to pedal more than you throttle: like its bigger sibling, the M20 is geared and seated for cruising, not cadence
- Your commute needs a bike-lane-legal machine — 50 km/h (31 mph) capability sits above most states' class limits, so check your state first
- You need a certified battery — Samebike publishes no UL listing for the M20

The retro moto shape, kept honest
Samebike's own pitch for the M20 is a machine between an electric bicycle and an electric dirt bike — more capable off-road than a commuter, easier to live with than a dirt bike. The café-racer bench, fat 20×4 rubber and headlight cowl deliver the look; the 7-speed Shimano cluster keeps it a bicycle.

1,800 peak watts, 100+ N·m
The single rear hub motor is rated at 1200W with an 1,800W peak and over 100 N·m of torque by Samebike's figures — enough to pull the M20's mass up real grades on throttle alone, with five assist levels when you'd rather help.

A cargo bay where the tank should be
The mid-frame shopping bay is the M20's cleverest feature: weight sits low and centered instead of swinging off a rear rack. Groceries, a toolkit, a small dog with opinions — it carries what the moto styling implies it can't.

Removable 48V 18Ah pack
The 864Wh battery slides out for indoor charging and claims up to 140 km (87 mi) of pedal-assist range in Samebike's spec table — its most optimistic figure; the same page also quotes 90 km elsewhere. Budget 4–6 hours for a full charge.
The honest ledger
Green flags
- Hydraulic disc brakes at $999 — the M20's single most unusual spec for the price; rivals at this money almost always run cable-pull calipers
- Full suspension plus a sprung bench seat, the same comfort layout as the flagship
- A removable 864Wh battery — charge it at your desk instead of wheeling a 128 lb bike to an outlet (the M20 itself is lighter than that; see the ledger)
- The half-twist throttle is a considered choice over a full-twist: Samebike's stated reason is preventing accidental engagement when you grab the bar
Red flags
- Samebike's range numbers for this bike disagree three ways: the stat strip and spec table say 70 km throttle / 140 km assisted, one marketing panel says 60 km / 90 km, and the FAQ says "65 km+". We print the spec-table pair and flag the rest — plan around the lowest figure if range is critical
- Steel frame (Samebike lists it as "Iron") and a published 58 kg (128 lb) weight — identical to the dual-motor M20-III's listing, which suggests one shared spec sheet; treat the weight as approximate
- Three of four colorways are already sold out at the source, and our availability mirrors Samebike's — if Peru sells out there, it goes unbuyable here too
- No UL 2849 / UL 2271 certification published, and no US class designation claimed — this is spec-sheet honesty, not a street-legality promise

How to read this spec sheet
Manufacturer spec pages contain marketing, and marketing sometimes disagrees with the spec table an inch below it. Rather than quietly pick numbers, here is every place Samebike's own page disagrees with itself for this model, and which figure we print:
- Range: Samebike publishes 70/140 km (spec table and stat strip), 60/90 km (a marketing panel), and "65 km+" (its FAQ) for the same bike. We print the spec-table figures and recommend planning around the lowest.
- Weight and dimensions are identical to the M20-III's spec sheet line-for-line, which suggests a shared table; the single-motor, single-battery M20 is plausibly lighter than the listed 58 kg, but we print only what Samebike publishes.
- Samebike's M20 FAQ describes a 250W restricted mode and EU street-legality — European boilerplate; no US class designation is claimed anywhere on the page.
What we counted
We pulled Samebike US's entire live catalog on 2026-08-23 and counted what was actually buyable: 29 of 32 bike variants across 10 models. The three unbuyable variants are all one model's colorways (M20: Black, LightSteelBlue, DarkGreen); every other bike was buyable in every published colorway on the pull date. This listing mirrors that feed — we only sell configurations Samebike can actually supply, and we re-sync price and availability against their store rather than guessing.
Redtail original analysis, counted from Samebike US's public storefront feed on 2026-08-23 (one shipping-surcharge SKU excluded). Availability moves; email support@redtailebikes.com for a combination not shown here.

Frequently asked questions
What's the difference between the M20 and the M20-III?
One motor and one battery versus two of each. The M20 runs a single 1200W motor (1,800W peak) and one 48V 18Ah pack; the M20-III doubles both — 3,000W peak and 1,728Wh — for $500 more. Same moto frame concept, same 7-speed drivetrain, same hydraulic brakes. If you ride loose terrain or big distances, the III earns its premium; for everything else the M20 is the sensible one.
Only one color is in stock — will more come back?
Our listing mirrors Samebike's US warehouse in real time as of our 2026-08-23 sync: Peru is buyable, Black, LightSteelBlue and DarkGreen are sold out at the source. We list only what can actually ship rather than taking orders we'd have to apologize for. Email support@redtailebikes.com if you want a sold-out colorway and we'll check with Samebike.
Is the M20 street-legal in my state?
It depends where you live, and we won't pretend otherwise. The M20 can reach 50 km/h (31 mph), which is above the 28 mph ceiling of the highest e-bike class most states define — Samebike itself claims no US class for it. Many owners ride machines like this on private land or where local rules allow; our state law guides on the Redtail journal walk through the details.
How big is the rider window?
Samebike publishes a 32.5 in saddle height on a 66.9 in long frame with a bench-style seat, which suits shorter riders unusually well — you sit in the bike rather than on top of it. There's no published maximum rider height, so if you're well over six feet, email us your inseam and we'll sanity-check the cockpit measurements against you before you order.
What warranty applies, and what do I do if something breaks?
Samebike's published policy: 3 years on the frame, 1 year on the battery (prorated), motor and other components. Your claim runs through us — send support@redtailebikes.com photos or video with your order number and Redtail handles Samebike directly. Shipping damage needs to be reported within days of delivery, so open the box when it lands.

How we verified this page. Every specification above was read from an archived copy of Samebike's own US product page (us.samebike.com/products/m20-off-road-peak-1800w-fat-tire-electric-bike), retrieved 2026-08-23 with the price cross-checked against two independent Samebike endpoints the same day. Figures are the manufacturer's ratings, not our test results; where Samebike's page disagrees with itself, the "How to read this spec sheet" section names each conflict and the figure we chose.
