YVY K20 Lite Fat Tire Electric Bike, 1000W Moto-Style

The K20 Lite is the entry point to YVY's moto-style line at $659: same frame and 20x4.0 tires as the K20, with a 1000W motor, a smaller 48V 15.6Ah battery and mechanical disc brakes instead of hydraulic. YVY's own pages disagree with themselves on its range and top speed, and we print both figures below.

Who the K20 Lite is for
Buy it if
- The cheapest way into this frame. At $659 it is the least expensive bike YVY sells, and it shares the K20's stance, tires and seat
- Shorter rides where 30 miles of throttle range is genuinely enough — commutes, errands, campground loops
- Riders who would rather put the $110 difference toward a spare battery than toward hydraulic brakes
- Mixed surfaces: the 20 x 4.0 fat tires and dual suspension carry over from the more expensive bikes unchanged
Look elsewhere if
- You want the strongest brakes in the line — this is the one K20-family bike specified with mechanical rather than hydraulic discs
- You need YVY's numbers to agree with each other. On this model they do not: its top speed and its pedal-assist range are each published two different ways (see below)
- You need a bike inside the federal low-speed electric bicycle definition — 1000W is above the 750W threshold in that definition
- You need a published curb weight, or a UL 2849 / UL 2271 certification — YVY publishes none of the three for this bike. Its sitewide EN 15194 test report names a different model
1000W — the smallest in the line
YVY rates this hub at 1000W against the K20's 1500W. It is the least powerful bike they currently sell, and it is still above the 750W ceiling in the federal low-speed electric bicycle definition. If the legal classification is what you are shopping on, note that none of YVY's bikes sit inside that definition on the manufacturer's own numbers.
749Wh, and YVY prints two capacities for it
The product page says 48V 15.6Ah, which is 748.8 Wh by our arithmetic. YVY's own replacement-battery listing describes the K20MINI pack — this bike's SKU — as 48V 15Ah, which would be 720 Wh. The two figures are 4% apart and both come from YVY. We show the product page's number in the table and flag the conflict rather than picking a winner.
Mechanical discs, not hydraulic
This is the substantive difference from the K20 above it. YVY specifies a dual mechanical disc system here and hydraulic dual brakes on the K20. Mechanical discs are easier to adjust at home and cheaper to service; hydraulic ones need less hand force and hold their feel better on long descents. On a bike this heavy, that trade is worth thinking about before you save the $110.
5 ft 4 in to 6 ft 2 in, 330 lb all-in
YVY's FAQ gives the same recommended height range and the same 330 lb maximum load as the K20 — unsurprising, since the frame is shared. As on every bike in this line, the 330 lb figure is total load, not rider weight, so subtract whatever you plan to carry.
Where this bike sits in US law
Bikes in this power class raise one question before any other, so here is the statute rather than a summary of it. Federal law defines the category this way:
the term “low-speed electric bicycle” means a two- or three-wheeled vehicle with fully operable pedals and an electric motor of less than 750 watts (1 h.p.), whose maximum speed on a paved level surface, when powered solely by such a motor while ridden by an operator who weighs 170 pounds, is less than 20 mph.

YVY publishes this bike's motor as 1000W brushless rear hub (YVY's rating) and its top speed as 28+ mph in the bullets, 30 mph in the FAQ (see notes). Set those figures against the threshold above and you can see for yourself that the manufacturer's own numbers fall outside the federal low-speed electric bicycle definition.
What that means in practice is decided by your state, not by us. Many states apply moped, motor-driven cycle or off-highway vehicle rules to machines above the federal threshold, and those rules can reach registration, insurance, licensing, helmet requirements and which paths and trails you may use. Some states set their own wattage ceilings that differ from the federal one. We cannot tell you how your state treats this bike, and we are not going to guess: check before you ride on any public road, bike path or trail.

The honest ledger
Green flags
- The cheapest entry to the moto frame, and the parts that matter for comfort — 20 x 4.0 tires, front fork, rear shock, the same saddle — are not what YVY cut to reach the price
- Still a removable pack, so it charges away from the bike like the more expensive models
- 1000W is the lowest motor rating in YVY's current line, which makes this the closest thing they sell to a conventional e-bike, even though it is still above the federal 750W threshold
- 7-speed drivetrain and a multi-function LCD carry over from the K20 rather than being downgraded
Red flags
- YVY's page contradicts itself on pedal-assist range: the bullets say "up to 60-8 0 miles" (their typo, as printed) and the FAQ on the same page says up to 50 miles. We print both and adopt neither
- It contradicts itself on top speed too — "28+++mph" in the bullets, "30 mph" in the FAQ
- And its battery is published two ways across YVY's own site: 48V 15.6Ah on this product page, 48V 15Ah on YVY's replacement-battery listing for the same K20MINI variant
- Certification does not cover this bike. YVY links an EN 15194:2017 test report from every page, but that report names model FM-002/CDDA20, a cargo electric bicycle, and no UL 2849 or UL 2271 certification is published for anything in the range

How to read this spec sheet
Manufacturer pages contain marketing, and marketing sometimes disagrees with the marketing an inch below it. Rather than quietly pick numbers, here is every place YVY's own page disagrees with itself for this model, every figure it leaves out, and what we did about each:
- This model carries the most self-contradictions of any bike in YVY's range, so read the table with them in mind. All four are between YVY's own published figures; none is our inference.
- Pedal-assist range: the bullet list says "up to 60-8 0 miles in pedal assist mode" — the space inside the number is YVY's typo, reproduced here as printed — while the FAQ on the same page says "up to 50 miles in pedal assist mode". We print both and adopt neither.
- Top speed: "28+++mph" in the bullets, "30 mph" in the FAQ. Again both are YVY's.
- Battery capacity: 48V 15.6Ah on this product page, 48V 15Ah on YVY's own replacement-battery listing for the K20MINI variant. That is a 720 Wh vs 749 Wh difference depending which page you read.
- YVY publishes no specification table for any bike. Every figure here was read out of marketing prose, and the sentence behind each is recorded in research/yvy/specs_20260825.json.
- This bike is listed twice on YVY's storefront — at $659 with the SKU and ten images, and at $969 on a second listing whose description is byte-for-byte identical. A third listing at $1,199 carries different photography of the same bike. We price against the first.
- YVY links two PDFs from every page: an EN 15194:2017 test report (report ATS240329142LR, issued 2 April 2024 by Shenzhen ATS Testing Technology, for model FM-002/CDDA20, a cargo electric bicycle) and the EUIPO trade mark certificate for "Ridstar". Neither covers this model. We say so rather than let a sitewide certificate imply cover it does not give.
What we counted
We pulled YVY's entire live catalogue on 2026-08-25 — all 46 published listings — and worked out what is actually on sale. Of 13 bike listings, only 7 are distinct bikes: 6 are the same machines listed a second time, which we proved from byte-identical descriptions, shared image files and, in three cases, by opening the photographs. Six of the thirteen bike listings are the same bikes listed twice — proven by byte-identical descriptions, shared image files, and in three cases by opening the photographs. The duplicates are priced $30–$550 above the merchandised listing of the same bike. We list one page per bike, priced against the listing YVY actually merchandises.

What it covers
Defects in hardware or firmware under regular use during the warranty period. YVY states it will repair or replace, at no charge, a product or part that proves defective because of hardware malfunction under regular use and maintenance.
What you must do
- Keep proof of purchase — YVY excludes claims with no associated purchasing proof, invoice or receipt
- Report the fault inside the 1-year window; YVY dates coverage from receipt or purchase, whichever is later
- Keep the original packaging for a period after delivery, which YVY asks for directly in its product listings
Not covered
- Conditions, malfunctions or damage not resulting from defects in hardware or firmware
- Claims with no purchase proof, invoice or receipt, and no authorised dealer confirmation
- Return shipping when the product is found to have no quality issue, or is confirmed working by YVY's after-sales engineers
- Faults reported after the warranty period, which YVY offers to resolve at material cost instead
YVY Limited Warranty issued by YVY Bikes, as published on its warranty page. One caveat worth knowing: that page lists its “Warranted Products” as the Q20, Upgraded Q20 and Q20Pro — model names that do not appear on YVY's current storefront. The 1-year motor, battery and charger term above is therefore taken from this bike's own product listing, which states it directly. File with Redtail, not with the manufacturer: we are the merchant of record on this order and we open and carry the warranty claim on your behalf.

Ships via trusted parcel and freight carriers — UPS, FedEx, and LTL freight for larger items — with tracking emailed at dispatch.
On delivery
Inspect your shipment at delivery. Damage, defects, or incorrect items must be reported with photos within 48 hours; claims submitted after this window are not accepted.
Bikes with power, charging, or component issues are covered under the manufacturer warranty; Redtail coordinates repair or replacement remotely at no cost to the customer.
Returns
Change-of-mind returns accepted only on unopened, factory-sealed items requested within 72 hours (3 days) of delivery, with a 15% restocking fee plus return shipping. Once a box is opened or a bike is ridden, it is no longer eligible.
Order cancellations carry a 3% transaction fee, because card-processing fees are non-recoverable.

What is the YVY K20 Lite's top speed?
YVY publishes two different answers on the same page: "28+++mph" in the product bullets and "30 mph" in the FAQ underneath them. We are not going to pick one for you — both are the manufacturer's own figures, neither is a measured result, and real speed depends on rider weight, terrain and charge. Whichever figure is right, it is well above the 20 mph motor-only speed in the federal low-speed electric bicycle definition.
How far can the K20 Lite actually go on one charge?
YVY claims up to 30 miles on throttle alone. For pedal assist it publishes two figures on the same page — "up to 60-8 0 miles" in the bullets and "up to 50 miles" in the FAQ. The honest measure is the pack: 48V x 15.6Ah is about 749 Wh, roughly 22% less energy than the K20's 960 Wh, so expect proportionally less range than that bike under the same conditions.
Is a 1000W electric bike street legal?
That depends on your state, and the federal definition is the starting point. 15 U.S.C. 2085(b) defines a "low-speed electric bicycle" as having "an electric motor of less than 750 watts (1 h.p.)" and a motor-only top speed under 20 mph for a 170 lb rider. At YVY's rated 1000W this bike is above that threshold, which leads many states to treat such a vehicle under moped or off-highway rules. Check your own state's rules before riding on a road or bike path.
What is the difference between the K20 Lite and the K20?
Three things, and the frame is not one of them. The K20 has a 1500W motor against the Lite's 1000W; a 48V 20Ah pack (960 Wh) against 48V 15.6Ah (749 Wh); and hydraulic dual brakes against the Lite's mechanical discs. Tires, suspension, drivetrain, display, rider-height range and the 330 lb load ceiling are the same on both. The K20 costs $110 more.
What height and weight does the K20 Lite fit?
YVY's FAQ recommends a rider height of 5 ft 4 in to 6 ft 2 in and gives a 330 lb maximum load. The load figure is everything the bike carries — rider, clothing, bags — not rider weight alone.
What battery does the K20 Lite use, and can I buy a spare?
A removable lithium-ion pack that YVY publishes as 48V 15.6Ah on this product page and as 48V 15Ah on its own replacement-battery listing for the same K20MINI variant. If you are buying a spare, quote the K20MINI variant rather than a capacity, because the capacity is exactly the figure their two pages disagree about.
How long does the K20 Lite take to charge?
YVY states about 4 to 6 hours for a full charge. The pack is removable, so it can charge indoors while the bike stays where it is parked.
Why does the K20 Lite have fat tires?
The 20 x 4.0 in tires run lower pressure than standard tires, which widens the contact patch and adds grip on sand, gravel, snow and broken pavement, while soaking up small impacts. The cost is rolling resistance and weight — fat tires are slower on smooth tarmac, which matters more on the Lite's smaller motor than on the K20.
