Freesky Alaska Pro M-520
Range is the whole argument here: 45Ah split across an 18Ah and a 27Ah pack, rated 98–175 miles — the longest of any single-motor Freesky. The Alaska Pro M-520 pairs that with a 4,500W peak motor at 170 N·m, 40 mph, and a 90 lb EMTB frame with the tallest fit in the range at 6'8".
- 4,500WPeak power
- 170N·mTorque
- 45AhBattery
- 40 mphMfr. top speed
- 98–175 miMfr. range
Every figure above is Freesky's own published specification for the Alaska Pro M-520, read from www.freeskycycle.com/products/alaska-pro-m-520 on 2026-08-24. Manufacturer claims, not Redtail test results — we label them that way rather than dress them up.

Who the Alaska Pro M-520 is for
Buy it if
- Genuinely long days. 98 miles at the pessimistic end is more than most riders will use in a weekend
- Tall riders — Freesky quotes 5'6"–6'8", the highest ceiling in the range, on a 350 mm seatpost
- Riders who want one strong motor rather than two: 4,500W and 170 N·m is the most powerful single motor Freesky makes
- Anyone who wants a spare pack built in rather than bought later
Skip it if
- You are under 5'6". This is the only Freesky whose fit range starts that high
- You want every cell covered by a published certificate — only the 18Ah pack has one
- You want dual-motor traction on loose ground
- You need road-legal. 40 mph is twelve past the Class 3 ceiling
The Alaska Pro M-520 in detail

Two packs, 45Ah, 98–175 miles
Freesky splits the capacity across an 18Ah and a 27Ah pack for 45Ah total, rated 98–175 miles and charged in 6–8 hours. The architecture is the interesting part: two packs means you can charge one while riding the other, and a failure in one does not strand the bike. It is the most useful thing on this spec sheet.

4,500W peak, 170 N·m, one wheel
The strongest single motor Freesky builds — more peak power than either 4,000W dual-motor bike, in one hub, at 170 N·m. Freesky rates it at 40 mph. Single-motor means less to service and no front-hub weight; it also means one contact patch doing the work when the ground is loose.

What is covered, precisely
UL 2849 certificate U14 128702 0012 names M-520 alone and covers the complete electrical system at 48,1 VDC. On the battery side, certificate U10 128702 0009 covers battery FP4818R0 at 18Ah. That is the 18Ah pack. The 27Ah pack has no published UL 2271 certificate. Freesky labels this honestly on their own page as “UL2271 Certified by TÜV (18Ah)”, and we are not going to be vaguer than the manufacturer.

Built for tall riders
A 5'6"–6'8" quoted fit on a 30.9 × 350 mm alloy seatpost — 50 mm longer than every other bike in the range. If you are over six foot and have been perching on e-bikes built for someone else, this is the one that was drawn around you.

90 lb, double-shoulder downhill fork
A downhill double-shoulder suspension fork, front and rear suspension, 180 mm four-piston hydraulic brakes and 26.0" × 4.0" fat tires, at 90 lb. Five pounds under the Ranger bikes while carrying nearly twice the battery — the single-motor layout paying for itself again.
The honest ledger
Green flags
- Brakes are the real thing: 180MM 4-piston Hydraulic Brakes. Four-piston hydraulics on a bike this heavy is not a given at this price.
- Suspension: Front and Rear Suspension, with a Downhill Double Shoulder Suspension.
- The complete-system UL 2849 certificate exists, names this model on its face, and we link the PDF — not a badge image.
- Rated to carry 400 lbs.
- Charging time: 6–8 hours.
Red flags
- At 40 mph assisted, this is outside every US e-bike class. Off-road and private land, not bike paths.
- Freesky publishes peak wattage only — no rated figure. Under our own rating system an undisclosed specification scores zero, and we do not guess at it.
- The linked UL 2271 battery certificate does not cover the full pack this bike ships.
- It weighs 90 lbs. Getting it onto a hitch rack is a two-person job.
- Cadence (speed) sensor rather than a torque sensor — assist comes on with pedal rotation, not with how hard you push.
What Freesky publishes about certification
A badge image on a product page is not a certificate. Below is what the certificate document itself says — issuer, number, standard edition, the models printed on its face — and what it does not cover. Every PDF is hosted by us, so the link will still work if Freesky reorganises their files.
UL 2849 (complete e-bike electrical system)
CoveredTÜV SÜD America certificate U14 128702 0012 Rev. 00, issued 2025-11-04, names M-520 at a rated voltage of 48,1VDC. Tested to UL 2849:2020/R:2022-12 and CAN/UL 2849:2022. Read the certificate (PDF).
UL 2271 (battery pack)
PartialThe certificate Freesky links, U10 128702 0009 Rev. 00, covers battery FP4818R0 rated 18Ah. This bike ships a 45Ah pack. The certificate is real; it does not cover the whole of what is on this bike, and we would rather say so. Read the certificate (PDF).
All 3 UL 2271 battery certificates in this range — certificate no. U10 128702 0001 Rev. 00, U10 128702 0003 Rev. 00, U10 128702 0009 Rev. 00 — carry the same remark on their face: “The battery is used for off-road LEVs.” That is the certifying body describing the intended use, not our characterisation of it.
Speed and the law
Outside the federal and state e-bike definitions — off-road and private land
Freesky rates this bike at 40 mph under pedal assist. The federal low-speed electric bicycle definition (15 U.S.C. § 2085) and every state three-class framework stop at 28 mph, so this machine sits outside them on speed alone — before wattage is even reached. It is not a Class 1, 2 or 3 e-bike, and we will not sell it as one.
Freesky does not publish a rated (nominal) motor wattage for any bike in this range; the figures they publish are peak. The statutory tests are written against the rated figure, so the wattage limb of those tests cannot be run on published data. We say that rather than substitute the peak number, which would be the wrong number.
Freesky's own manual puts it this way: “laws regulating the use of battery-operated bicycles on public roads, parks, and other open areas may vary by state and locality. It is important to consult with your local authorities before riding your e-bike in public areas.” Buy it for private land, OHV areas, and anywhere motor-vehicle rules allow. Check your own state and city before you ride it anywhere public — and ask us, we will put the answer in writing.
We publish a state-by-state e-bike law hub, and if you want your own state answered in writing before you order, ask us and we will put it in an email you can keep.
How to read this spec sheet
Peak, not rated
Freesky publishes peak motor wattage on every model and a rated (nominal) figure on none of them — not on the product pages, not in the comparison table, not in any of the seven user manuals. Peak is the short-burst ceiling; rated is the continuous figure that statutes are written against. A Freesky peak number and another brand's rated number are two different quantities, and comparing them directly will mislead you.
Range is a range for a reason
Every range figure here is Freesky's, quoted as a span. Plan around the bottom of it. Rider weight, terrain, temperature, tyre pressure and throttle use all take from the top.
Top speed is unloaded
Manufacturer top speeds are measured under favourable conditions. They are useful for comparing models within a range and much less useful as a promise about your commute.
Size and fit
Freesky quotes a rider-height range of 5'6"–6'8" for the Alaska Pro M-520, on a 30.9*350MM Alloy Seatpost. That is the manufacturer's fit window, not a guarantee — if you are near either end of it, tell us your inseam and we will tell you honestly whether it will work.

What we counted
Measured by Redtail
We pulled Freesky's entire published catalogue on 2026-08-24 — all 60 products and every variant — and counted what could actually be bought that day. Freesky could sell 30 of its own 38 published bike configurations on the pull date — 79%. 0 of its 10 bike models had no buyable colourway at all.
Across the accessory and parts range, 108 of 136 variants were buyable. We mirror that availability daily rather than list a colour nobody can ship — which is why some options on this page may be greyed out today and back tomorrow.
Between 2026-08-23 and 2026-08-24 three Camouflage colourways rose $50, one accessory went out of stock, and one product was withdrawn from the catalogue entirely. That is why this page is re-checked daily rather than copied once.
Warranty
Buy the bike from Redtail and Redtail handles the claim. Send photos or video of the issue with your order number and we take it from there — we file and manage the claim with Freesky on your behalf, and we do not send you to the manufacturer to argue it yourself.
Who covers you
Freesky's published warranty says, in its own words: “This warranty applies only to products purchased directly from the official FREESKY website (www.freeskycycle.com).” and directs buyers from authorised dealers to “their respective warranty policies”. Redtail is a dealer — so the cover on your bike is Redtail's, and the claim comes to us.
What Freesky stands behind
- Motor, battery and controller: 24 months (orders on or after 13 November 2025); 18 months before that date
- All other components: 12 months
- The applicable warranty period begins on the original purchase date.
What is excluded
- Consumables and wear parts — tyres, tubes, brake pads, cables and housing, grips, chain, spokes
- Incorrect assembly, water damage, accidents, or improper or negligent use
- Operation or maintenance contrary to the product's maintenance instructions
- Defects inherent to the normal service life of the product
Freesky's warranty terms as published at www.freeskycycle.com/pages/warranty-policy, read 2026-08-24. Reproduced as context for what the manufacturer stands behind; your cover is Redtail's.

Frequently asked questions
How far does the Freesky Alaska Pro M-520 really go?
Freesky rates 98–175 miles from 45Ah split across an 18Ah and a 27Ah pack. That is the manufacturer's figure, not a tested one. Plan around 98 miles; the 175 assumes light assist, flat ground and a light rider.
Is the Alaska Pro M-520 battery UL 2271 certified?
Partly, and Freesky says so themselves. Certificate U10 128702 0009 covers battery FP4818R0 at 18Ah — the smaller of the two packs. The 27Ah pack has no published UL 2271 certificate. Freesky's own page label reads “UL2271 Certified by TÜV (18Ah)”. Publishing the 27Ah certificate would close this, and we will update the page when it exists.
Is the Alaska Pro M-520 UL 2849 certified?
Yes. TÜV SÜD America certificate U14 128702 0012, issued 2025-11-04, names M-520 alone and covers the complete e-bike electrical system at a rated voltage of 48,1 VDC. The PDF is linked on this page.
Is the Alaska Pro M-520 street legal?
No. At 40 mph assisted it sits outside the federal low-speed electric bicycle definition and every state three-class framework, which stop at 28 mph. Off-road and private land only.
What size rider does the Alaska Pro M-520 fit?
Freesky quotes 5'6"–6'8" — the highest ceiling and the highest floor in the range — on a 350 mm seatpost, 50 mm longer than any other Freesky. Riders under 5'6" should look at the Rocky Pro A-320 or Eurostar Turbo M-410.
Can you ride the Alaska Pro M-520 on one battery?
Freesky publishes the pack as 45Ah split 18Ah + 27Ah but does not publish an operating procedure for running on a single pack. We will not guess at it — ask us and we will get Freesky's answer in writing before you order.
The bottom line
The long-distance bike, and the only one here that gives a tall rider a frame that fits. 45Ah across two packs is a genuinely good piece of design. The gap is documentation, not engineering: only the 18Ah pack carries a published battery certificate, and Freesky flags that themselves. Buy it for the range and the fit; ask us to chase the 27Ah certificate.
