Why the M23

Smartravel M23 6500W Electric Dirt Bike — Pedals and a Shimano 7-speed
Pedals

Pedals and a Shimano 7-speed

The M23 keeps a real drivetrain: pedals turning a Shimano 7-speed, and a magnetic pedal-assist sensor on the crank that brings the motor in as the pedals turn. A full-twist throttle sits on the bar for riding on the motor alone.

A rear brushless hub motor rated 3,000W nominal and 6,500W peak, driven by a Fardriver 80A/260A controller, with 200 N·m of torque. Smartravel publishes 50 mph in Sport mode and 28 mph in Eco mode.

Ninety-six 21700 lithium-ion cells make up a 60V 30Ah pack that charges in 4 to 6 hours on the included 67.2V 3.5A charger. The LCD unlocks by NFC, and Smartravel's app handles power on and off, ride tracking, route history and the lights.

What stands out on the spec sheet

  • 6,500W peak, the highest published peak power on our Smartravel shelf, at $400 less than the Raptor ST202 Pro
  • 200 N·m of max torque from a single rear hub motor
  • Full suspension front and rear, with a KKE rear shock
  • Pedals, a Shimano 7-speed and a pedal-assist sensor alongside the full-twist throttle
  • NFC unlock and app control included

Smartravel supplies covered parts free; fitting labor is covered when its after-sales team authorizes it, and warranty parts ship within the lower 48. Claims are made within one year of purchase, with photos or video.

What Smartravel’s warranty does not cover:

  • Wear parts: tires, inner tubes, spokes and brake pads
  • Accessories, including free gifts (Smartravel's product pages say the warranty service does not include free accessories)
  • Damage from abuse, neglect, misuse, an accident, stunt riding or ramp jumping
  • Damage from water, from improper charging or from a charger Smartravel or its dealers did not supply
  • Third-party parts, and any part that has been modified or tampered with
  • Lost or damaged keys or NFC card
  • Electrical parts repaired or modified by someone Smartravel has not authorized (that voids the warranty)

Owning it in your state

The M23 is built as an electric dirt bike. Smartravel rates its motor at 3,000W nominal and 6,500W peak and publishes a 50 mph top speed in Sport mode.

Federal law's low-speed electric bicycle has a motor under 750 watts and a top motor-powered speed under 20 mph (15 U.S.C. § 2085(b)), so the M23 sits outside that definition, and state law decides where you can ride it. Smartravel's Eco mode caps speed at 28 mph; a mode setting leaves the motor's rating unchanged, and how a state treats a switchable mode is that state's call.

The detail for where you ride is in our state-by-state e-bike law guide.

How to read this spec sheet

Smartravel’s pages give more than one figure for some specs on this model; the list below gives both, and the one the table above uses.

  • Riding range: Smartravel's spec table states 37–56 miles (60–90 km); the stat bar and feature copy on the same page say up to 65 miles. The table above prints the spec-table figure.
  • Brakes: Smartravel's spec table lists hydraulic disc brakes with 2-piston calipers and 203 mm rotors; the feature copy on the same page describes a four-piston hydraulic system on 203 mm rotors. The table above prints the spec-table description.
  • Modes: the spec table lists Eco (28 mph) and Sport (50 mph). Smartravel's feature copy also describes a City mode held to 750W and 28 mph, and its model-comparison chart lists a Race mode at 65+ mph.
  • Smartravel's Warranty & Return Policy sets 12 months for every component and the battery. Its product pages also print '1-year all-inclusive' (with batteries and free accessories outside 'the warranty service'), 'a 2-year warranty for each ebike', and, on the Rocket ST201F and DK400, 18 months. We plan to the policy's 12 months; if a longer term matters to you, tell us and we will put the question to Smartravel in writing before you order.

Straight answers before you order

Smartravel lists the M23 at 117 lb (53 kg).

That weight is a steel-reinforced fork, full suspension and a 1,800 Wh pack, and the M23 stands on a kickstand and rolls on 19-inch wheels, so you wheel it rather than lift it. If you need a bike you can lift onto a car rack, the ZOONLAI UrbanX is 58.37 lb. See the ZOONLAI UrbanX.

Smartravel rates the M23 for a 265 lb max load.

If you and your gear come to more than that, the Raptor ST202 Pro is rated to 350 lb, rider and cargo combined. See the Raptor ST202 Pro.

The battery, charger, battery keys and pedals travel in a separate FedEx parcel from the bike.

Expect two deliveries rather than one. If either looks wrong when it lands, send us photos within 48 hours and we deal with Smartravel for you.

Manuals & assembly

Smartravel publishes an owner’s manual and an assembly video for its models on Smartravel's owner's-manual and assembly-video page. Email us and we will send you the current file for your bike directly, along with a plain answer on what is left to put together out of the box — worth asking before you order if that is what decides it.

Frequently asked questions

How fast does the M23 go?

Smartravel publishes 50 mph in Sport mode and 28 mph in Eco mode on the M23's own page, and its model-comparison chart lists a Race mode at 65+ mph, from a rear hub motor rated 3,000W nominal and 6,500W peak with 200 N·m of torque.

Why does the M23 have pedals?

Smartravel fits a magnetic pedal-assist sensor on the crank, so turning the pedals brings the motor in the way the throttle does, and the pedals drive a Shimano 7-speed. The full-twist throttle is there when you want the motor alone.

Where can I legally ride the M23?

Smartravel pitches the M23's full-power mode for off-road riding. Its published 3,000W nominal motor and 50 mph Sport-mode speed sit above the federal low-speed electric bicycle line (a motor under 750 watts and under 20 mph, 15 U.S.C. § 2085(b)), so your state's law decides where it can go. Check the rules where you ride before you order, and ask us if you want the answer in writing.

Is the M23 worth it?

If you want dirt-bike power without a dirt-bike price, yes: 6,500W peak, a 60V 1,800 Wh battery and full suspension for $1,249.99, the highest published peak power on our Smartravel shelf at $400 less than the Raptor ST202 Pro. It ships free in the lower 48, and we file any warranty claim with Smartravel for you.

How far does the M23 go on a charge?

Smartravel's spec table states 37 to 56 miles per charge from the 60V 30Ah (1,800 Wh) battery; the headline figure on the same page is up to 65 miles. A full charge takes 4 to 6 hours on the included 67.2V 3.5A charger.

Is the M23 sized for adults?

Yes. Smartravel's suggested rider height for the M23 is 5'4" to 6'5", with a 265 lb max load. If you and your gear come to more than that, the Raptor ST202 Pro is rated to 350 lb.

Can I ride the M23 in the rain?

Smartravel says its e-bikes are water-resistant: fine in light rain and on wet roads, but not fully waterproof, so skip heavy rain and never submerge any of it.

Can I pay for the M23 over time?

Checkout takes the full $1,249.99 by credit card, Shop Pay, Google Pay or Apple Pay, and it offers no payment plan right now, so a credit card is the way to spread the cost. It ships free in the lower 48.
