The Ranger Plus M-540 in detail
2500W + 2500W, 250 N·m
Two brushless peak motors at 125 N·m each, up from the Ranger Air's 105. Freesky rates the pair at 40 mph against the Air's 34. That is a six-mile-per-hour step for $550, on an identical chassis — worth it if you have the space to use it, not if you do not.
48V 30Ah of Samsung/LG cells
Freesky specifies a Samsung/LG-celled 30Ah pack rated 60–120 miles. Five more amp-hours than the Ranger Air, and fifteen more miles at the top of the range. The trade is charge time: 8–10 hours against the Air's 6–8, on the same 3A charger pushing a bigger pack.
What the paperwork covers, and what it does not
UL 2849 certificate U14 128702 0008 names M-540 on its face, so the complete electrical system is covered. The UL 2271 battery certificate Freesky links, U10 128702 0003, covers battery FP4825R0 at 24.5Ah — the pack in the 25Ah bikes, not the 30Ah pack fitted here. The system certificate is solid. The battery certificate does not describe this pack, and we would rather tell you that than let a badge do the talking.
Five colours, all shipping
Blue, Black, Red, Green and Camouflage are all available as of 23 August 2026 — the only bike in the Freesky range with a complete colour chart in stock. Camouflage carries a $50 premium at $1,899; the other four are $1,849.
Unchanged from the Ranger Air, and that is the point
Same 95 lb step-through frame, same downhill full suspension, same 180 mm four-piston hydraulic brakes, same 26 × 4.0 fat tires, same Shimano 7-speed, same 5'4"–6'8" fit. Freesky did not redesign the bike. They upgraded the drivetrain and the pack and left a chassis that was already sized for the job.
The honest ledger
Green flags
- Brakes are the real thing: 180MM 4-piston Hydraulic Brakes. Four-piston hydraulics on a bike this heavy is not a given at this price.
- Suspension: Front and Rear Suspension, with a Downhill Full Suspension.
- The complete-system UL 2849 certificate exists, names this model on its face, and we link the PDF — not a badge image.
- Rated to carry 400 lbs.
- Charging time: 8–10 hours.
Red flags
- At 40 mph assisted, this is outside every US e-bike class. Off-road and private land, not bike paths.
- Freesky publishes peak wattage only — no rated figure. Under our own rating system an undisclosed specification scores zero, and we do not guess at it.
- The linked UL 2271 battery certificate does not cover the full pack this bike ships.
- It weighs 95 lbs. Getting it onto a hitch rack is a two-person job.
- Cadence (speed) sensor rather than a torque sensor — assist comes on with pedal rotation, not with how hard you push.
What Freesky publishes about certification
A badge image on a product page is not a certificate. Below is what the certificate document itself says — issuer, number, standard edition, the models printed on its face — and what it does not cover. Every PDF is hosted by us, so the link will still work if Freesky reorganises their files.
UL 2849 (complete e-bike electrical system)

All 3 UL 2271 battery certificates in this range — certificate no. U10 128702 0001 Rev. 00, U10 128702 0003 Rev. 00, U10 128702 0009 Rev. 00 — carry the same remark on their face: “The battery is used for off-road LEVs.” That is the certifying body describing the intended use, not our characterisation of it.
Speed and the law
Outside the federal and state e-bike definitions — off-road and private land
Freesky rates this bike at 40 mph under pedal assist. The federal low-speed electric bicycle definition (15 U.S.C. § 2085) and every state three-class framework stop at 28 mph, so this machine sits outside them on speed alone — before wattage is even reached. It is not a Class 1, 2 or 3 e-bike, and we will not sell it as one.
Freesky does not publish a rated (nominal) motor wattage for any bike in this range; the figures they publish are peak. The statutory tests are written against the rated figure, so the wattage limb of those tests cannot be run on published data. We say that rather than substitute the peak number, which would be the wrong number.
Freesky's own manual puts it this way: “laws regulating the use of battery-operated bicycles on public roads, parks, and other open areas may vary by state and locality. It is important to consult with your local authorities before riding your e-bike in public areas.” Buy it for private land, OHV areas, and anywhere motor-vehicle rules allow. Check your own state and city before you ride it anywhere public — and ask us, we will put the answer in writing.

How to read this spec sheet
Peak, not rated
Freesky publishes peak motor wattage on every model and a rated (nominal) figure on none of them — not on the product pages, not in the comparison table, not in any of the seven user manuals. Peak is the short-burst ceiling; rated is the continuous figure that statutes are written against. A Freesky peak number and another brand's rated number are two different quantities, and comparing them directly will mislead you.
Range is a range for a reason
Every range figure here is Freesky's, quoted as a span. Plan around the bottom of it. Rider weight, terrain, temperature, tyre pressure and throttle use all take from the top.
Top speed is unloaded
Manufacturer top speeds are measured under favourable conditions. They are useful for comparing models within a range and much less useful as a promise about your commute.
Size and fit
Freesky quotes a rider-height range of 5'4"–6'8" for the Ranger Plus M-540, on a 30.9*300MM Alloy Seatpost. That is the manufacturer's fit window, not a guarantee — if you are near either end of it, tell us your inseam and we will tell you honestly whether it will work.

Measured by Redtail
We pulled Freesky's entire published catalogue on 2026-08-24 — all 60 products and every variant — and counted what could actually be bought that day. Freesky could sell 30 of its own 38 published bike configurations on the pull date — 79%. 0 of its 10 bike models had no buyable colourway at all.
Across the accessory and parts range, 108 of 136 variants were buyable. We mirror that availability daily rather than list a colour nobody can ship — which is why some options on this page may be greyed out today and back tomorrow.
Between 2026-08-23 and 2026-08-24 three Camouflage colourways rose $50, one accessory went out of stock, and one product was withdrawn from the catalogue entirely. That is why this page is re-checked daily rather than copied once.
Warranty
Buy the bike from Redtail and Redtail handles the claim. Send photos or video of the issue with your order number and we take it from there — we file and manage the claim with Freesky on your behalf, and we do not send you to the manufacturer to argue it yourself.
Who covers you
Freesky's published warranty says, in its own words: “This warranty applies only to products purchased directly from the official FREESKY website (www.freeskycycle.com).” and directs buyers from authorised dealers to “their respective warranty policies”. Redtail is a dealer — so the cover on your bike is Redtail's, and the claim comes to us.
What Freesky stands behind
- Motor, battery and controller: 24 months (orders on or after 13 November 2025); 18 months before that date
- All other components: 12 months
- The applicable warranty period begins on the original purchase date.
What is excluded
- Consumables and wear parts — tyres, tubes, brake pads, cables and housing, grips, chain, spokes
- Incorrect assembly, water damage, accidents, or improper or negligent use
- Operation or maintenance contrary to the product's maintenance instructions
- Defects inherent to the normal service life of the product

Shipping, returns & support
Shipping
Free shipping on every electric bike within the contiguous United States (lower 48). Orders are prepared and dispatched within 1–3 business days of confirmation. Most e-bikes arrive within 5–10 business days after dispatch, depending on location.
On delivery
Inspect your shipment at delivery. Damage, defects, or incorrect items must be reported with photos within 48 hours; claims submitted after this window are not accepted.
Returns
Change-of-mind returns accepted only on unopened, factory-sealed items requested within 72 hours (3 days) of delivery, with a 15% restocking fee plus return shipping. Once a box is opened or a bike is ridden, it is no longer eligible.
If something is wrong
Bikes with power, charging, or component issues are covered under the manufacturer warranty; Redtail coordinates repair or replacement remotely at no cost to the customer.

What is the difference between the Ranger Plus M-540 and the Ranger Air M-540?
Motors, battery and speed. The Plus runs 2500W+2500W peak against 2000W+2000W, a 30Ah pack against 25Ah, and 40 mph against 34, for $550 more. Frame, weight, brakes, tires, drivetrain and rider fit are identical. The Plus also charges slower — 8–10 hours against 6–8.
Is the Ranger Plus M-540 battery UL 2271 certified?
Not for the pack it ships. Freesky links certificate U10 128702 0003, which covers battery FP4825R0 rated 24.5Ah — the pack used in the 25Ah bikes. This bike carries a 30Ah pack. The certificate is genuine; it does not describe this battery. Freesky can resolve it by publishing the certificate for the 30Ah pack, and we will update this page the day they do.
Is the Ranger Plus M-540 UL 2849 certified?
Yes. TÜV SÜD America certificate U14 128702 0008 names M-540 on its face and covers the complete e-bike electrical system to UL 2849:2020/R:2022-12 and CAN/UL 2849:2022. The PDF is linked on this page.
