The Tempo is the T1ST with a throttle. Same 39 lb, same 350W class of motor, same road geometry — but a throttle means it covers Class 1, 2 and 3 rather than 1 and 3, and it wears Shimano hydraulic brakes and slightly wider 42c tires. City bike, not a tourer.

The Tempo in detail
The one difference that matters
Mechanically this and the T1ST are close relatives. The throttle is what separates them, and it is why Velotric lists this bike as Class 1 / 2 / 3 and the T1ST as 1 / 3. If your commute has lights, junctions and hills from standstill, a throttle is worth more than a spec sheet suggests.
Shimano hydraulics on a 39 lb bike
Shimano hydraulic disc brakes rather than the Tektro fitted to most of this range. On a light bike that is a generous specification — modulation matters more than raw power when there is not much mass to arrest.
700 × 42c, two millimetres that count
Kenda 700×42c puncture-resistant. Two millimetres wider than the T1ST sounds trivial and is not: it is the difference between flinching at a curb edge and riding over it. On a city bike that is the right call.
39 lb, in a range that averages 60
The Tempo and the T1ST are the only Velotrics under 45 lb. If your bike has to come inside, up a step or onto a rack single-handed, that number decides more than any other on this page.
36V, 350W, 45 Nm — and why that is enough here
Half the wattage of the 750W bikes, on a bike weighing two-thirds as much. On flat and rolling city ground the arithmetic works. On a sustained 10% climb with panniers it does not, and we would rather say so.

Velotric's own certification page says “most Velotric e-bikes are both UL 2271 Recognized and UL 2849 Certified”. We do not apply that sentence to this bike: “most” is not “all”, and Recognized and Certified are different UL statuses. Class, speed and where you can ride
Built to the US three-class framework — the class is a setting you select
Velotric states a Class of “1 / 2 / 3” for this model, which means the class it operates in is a setting you select rather than a fixed property of the machine. Velotric ships it at 20 MPH by default and states an adjustable range of 12 ~ 28 MPH.
The motor is specified at 350W. The federal low-speed electric bicycle definition at 15 U.S.C. § 2085 tops out at 750W, so this sits at that ceiling rather than above it — which is the reason a bike like this can be ridden as a Class 1, 2 or 3 e-bike where those classes are recognized.
What the classes mean in practice: Class 1 is pedal-assist only up to 20 mph; Class 2 adds a throttle up to 20 mph; Class 3 is pedal-assist to 28 mph and is the class most often restricted on shared-use paths. Which classes are allowed where is set by your state and often by your city or park district.
We are not going to tell you this bike “is” a Class 3 e-bike, because that depends on how it is set and where you ride it. Tell us your state and we will put the answer in an email you can keep.

How to read this spec sheet
Nominal and peak are different numbers
Velotric publishes a nominal motor rating and, on several models, a peak figure alongside it (“750W (1300W Peak Power)”). Nominal is the continuous rating that the federal low-speed electric bicycle definition and state statutes are written against; peak is a short-burst ceiling. When you compare against a brand that quotes only peak, you are not comparing like with like.
Two range figures, not one
Velotric quotes throttle range and pedal-assist range separately rather than blending them into a single flattering number. The assist figure is the higher of the two and assumes you are contributing. Plan around the throttle figure if you intend to use one.
Class is a setting, not a fact about the bike
These bikes ship at a default speed limit and can be adjusted within a stated range. What is legal where you ride depends on that setting and on your state and city — which is why we will not print a class badge and call it done.
Size and fit
Velotric quotes a rider-height range of MS/R: 4'10'' ~ 5'5'' MS/L: 5'3'' ~ 5'11'' HS/R: 4'11'' ~ 5'8'' HS/L:5'6'' ~ 6'4'' for the Tempo. If you are near either end of it, send us your inseam and we will tell you honestly whether it will work rather than sell you the wrong frame.

We pulled Velotric's entire published catalog on 2026-08-24 — all 125 products and every variant — and counted what could actually be bought that day. Velotric could sell 80 of its own 102 published bike configurations on the pull date — 78%. 6 of its 20 bike models had no buyable colorway at all.
Across the accessory and parts range, 152 of 166 variants were buyable. We mirror that availability daily rather than list a color nobody can ship — which is why some options on this page may be greyed out today and back tomorrow.
Warranty
Buy the bike from Redtail and Redtail handles the claim. Send photos or video of the issue with your order number and we take it from there — we file and manage it rather than sending you to a manufacturer inbox. Velotric also keeps its own customer-service line open to every owner for troubleshooting, for the life of the bike, whoever sold it.
Who covers you
Velotric's warranty states: “Only applicable to United States e-bike purchases from velotricbike.com. Bikes purchased outside the Velotric official website shall contact their original dealer for after-sale service.” Redtail is a dealer, so after-sale service on this bike is Redtail's and the claim comes to us. Velotric adds that “All Velotric bike owners are entitled to contact the Velotric CS Team for troubleshooting service throughout the lifetime of bikes.” — that part is open to every owner, whoever sold the bike.

Velotric publishes three warranty documents, and they disagree
- velotricbike.com/pages/warranty: 5-year structure row naming T1, T1ST, T1ST Plus, Breeze and Tempo; battery 2 years, designed to retain up to 75% of original capacity.
- Velotric support-center policy (updated 2026-08-21): the same structure row narrowed to 'T1 & T1ST only'; battery expressed as 2 years or 'up to 300 charging cycles, whichever occurs first'.
- Velotric owner's manual, p.100 (PDF deposit copy held): a flat 2-year term whose Covered Components include frame, forks and brake — no 5-year tier at all.
We quote all three and present none as governing, because Velotric has not said which one wins. It matters less than it looks here — your cover is Redtail's — but you should know the manufacturer's own documents are not consistent.

- Consumables and wear parts — tires, tubes, brake pads, cables and housing, grips, chain, spokes, bearings, free hub bodies, sprockets

Shipping, returns & support
Shipping
Free shipping on every electric bike within the contiguous United States (lower 48). Orders are prepared and dispatched within 1–3 business days of confirmation. Most e-bikes arrive within 5–10 business days after dispatch, depending on location.
On delivery
Inspect your shipment at delivery. Damage, defects, or incorrect items must be reported with photos within 48 hours; claims submitted after this window are not accepted.
Returns
Change-of-mind returns accepted only on unopened, factory-sealed items requested within 72 hours (3 days) of delivery, with a 15% restocking fee plus return shipping. Once a box is opened or a bike is ridden, it is no longer eligible.
If something is wrong
Bikes with power, charging, or component issues are covered under the manufacturer warranty; Redtail coordinates repair or replacement remotely at no cost to the customer.

Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between the Velotric Tempo and the T1ST?
The throttle. The Tempo has one, so Velotric lists it as Class 1 / 2 / 3; the T1ST has none and is listed as 1 / 3. The Tempo also uses Shimano hydraulic brakes and 42c tires; the T1ST uses Tektro and 40c and has the slightly larger battery and longer quoted range. Both weigh 39 lb.
Is the Velotric Tempo powerful enough for hills?
It is a 350W, 45 Nm bike — the least torque in the Velotric range. On flat and rolling ground it is entirely adequate; on sustained steep climbs with cargo it will feel thin. If hills are your daily reality, the 90–105 Nm Summit and Nomad models are the honest answer.
Is the Tempo a Class 3 e-bike?
Velotric states a Class of 1 / 2 / 3, meaning you select it. It ships at a 20 mph default, adjustable within 12–28 mph. Whether Class 3 is permitted where you ride is set by your state and often your city — ask us and we will answer for your address in writing.
Is the Velotric Tempo UL certified?
Velotric states UL 2849, UL 2271 for the battery, UL 2580 for the cells and ISO 4210 in this model's own spec sheet. No certificate document is published for any Velotric model, so those are the manufacturer's claims and we label them that way.
How far does the Tempo go?
Velotric quotes 60 miles on pedal assist from the 374Wh pack, with a separate and lower throttle figure. Manufacturer figures, not our test results.
How heavy is the Velotric Tempo?
39 lb, tying the T1ST as the lightest bike in the range and roughly half the weight of the fat-tire models.
The bottom line
A genuinely light city e-bike with a throttle and good brakes, which is a rarer combination than it should be. Buy it if your commute is urban and your storage involves stairs. If your ride has real hills or you carry weight, the extra $200 to the Discover 2 buys 750W, 75 Nm and 110 more watt-hours, and it is the better bike for that job.
