Why the M-380 Tandem
Two cranksets, zero arguments
Classic tandems chain both riders to one drivetrain — pedal together or fight. The M-380 decouples them: the front crankset drives and meters the assist through its torque sensor; the rear crankset lets the second rider contribute exactly as much as they choose, including nothing, with feet on the wooden rests. It's the difference between taking someone along and dragging them along.

Addmotor's own copy names the audience — couples, caregivers, seniors, families — and the hardware follows: a supported rear seat with backrest, footboards, a protective layout that keeps the passenger inside the frame, and a machine one person can ride solo without ballast. Steering, braking and power all live at the front seat: Tektro discs at three wheels with a parking brake, the half-twist throttle, and 7-level torque-sensed assist reading the pilot's pedals. At 96 inches on a 74.5-inch wheelbase, this is the longest machine Addmotor sells.
Measure the garage, the gate and the turning circle first — the full dimensions are below. A tandem that seats two adults with pedals for both cannot be shorter, and free freight delivery brings it to your curb assembled enough that its length is never your transport problem.
A tandem shares steering and braking with the front seat — only the pedaling is independent.
That is what a tandem is: the front seat pilots, the stoker pedals when they choose. A second rider who wants full independence wants two machines — or the Greattan L's bench if they'd rather ride along. See the Greattan L.
Addmotor's battery row for the dual version is printed inconsistently on its own page ('48V*20Ah UL-certified Battery / 20 Ah Bulit-In Battery', their typo).
We quote it and flag it rather than tidy it: a removable 20Ah pack, plus a built-in second 20Ah on the dual build. Either way the packs sit in Addmotor's 2-year tier and Redtail files any claim.
The 130-mile claim is dual-battery PAS 1; no single-pack figure is printed for the M-380.
We print the omission rather than invent the number. Two-up duty on one pack still covers an afternoon of shared miles, and the dual build exists precisely for the long version of that afternoon.

How to read this spec sheet
Where Addmotor's own page prints more than one figure for the same spec, the table above carries the one we could verify twice, and this list names every such case and the figure we chose:
- Prices: $4,099 (single-battery) and $4,699 (dual) are Addmotor's live configurator prices, both mirrored by our two variants. No machine-readable pre-sale price exists, so no compare-at is listed.
- Battery: Addmotor's row reads '48V*20Ah UL-certified Battery / 20 Ah Bulit-In Battery' — their typo ('Bulit'), their slash convention for the dual setup. Quoted as printed; the dual version pairs the removable pack with a built-in second.
- Range: only the dual-battery 130-mile figure is printed. No single-pack figure exists on the page, and we don't invent one.
- The M-380's PDP is one of two in the trike range on Addmotor's older server-rendered template; its sizing image on the U-750's page carries this model's alt text — their copy-paste, noted in our research ledger.
- Differential: no row appears in the M-380's published tables — unlike most delta siblings; we print the absence rather than assume either way.

Frequently asked questions
How is this different from the Greattan L?
Participation. The Greattan L's rear rider is a passenger on a bench; the M-380's rear rider has pedals — independent ones, so they contribute exactly what they choose. That's $200 and 13 inches of length between the two philosophies. If the second rider wants to ride, get the tandem; if they want to be carried, get the L.
Can one person ride a 96-inch tandem alone?
Yes, and Addmotor addresses it directly: the trike layout means no balancing act, the front seat holds all controls, and the empty rear seat just rides along. Solo handling is calm — long wheelbases are stable wheelbases — with the only real costs being length in corners and the 147 lb you already accepted. Many buyers ride it solo on weekdays and two-up on weekends; the machine doesn't care.
How does the independent pedaling actually work?
Two separate cranksets: the front one drives the machine and feeds the torque sensor; the rear one lets the second rider add effort when they want. Addmotor's own FAQ describes the arrangement — one partner pedals while the other rests feet on the wooden boards — and that's the mechanism: no synchronization, no fighting, no cadence negotiations. The rear rider can literally stop pedaling mid-stroke.
Single or dual battery for $600?
For genuine two-up use, dual — the second rider's weight cuts range exactly when you're using the machine as designed, and 130 claimed PAS-1 miles of headroom (vs an unprinted single figure) keeps day trips unanxious. Solo-mostly households can defer: the removable pack charges anywhere, and the $600 stays in your pocket until the use case proves itself.
What about gates, sheds and turning around?
Measure three things before ordering: your narrowest gate against 38.5 inches, your storage depth against 96 inches, and your tightest turnaround against a machine with a 74.5-inch wheelbase (think three-point turns, not U-turns). This is the range's largest vehicle and we'd rather lose the sale than have it live outside under a tarp.
